Draft Night Disappointment?

I have never seen Chalmers play but it is hard for me to believe that he is anywhere near the player that Lou Williams is. Lou Williams is younger and would have probably been the 4th pick in the draft had he came out of college this year. I couldn't imagine how he would have dominated college if he stayed till he was a junior. He'd average 25ppg and 5 assists in his sleep. I wanted the Sixers to acquire Jordan in the 2nd round.

I don't know if the two guys have the same skill set. Chalmers has two defining attributes. One, he has great hands defensively and can be disruptive in the same way that Rondo is disruptive as a defender. Two, he is not afraid to take the big shot. I have no idea if he has starting PG ability but he is an interesting prospect.

I get the sense that it would have cost us our Utah #1 to get Jordan- and I'm not sure that would have been a wise move. I aslo would not have traded into the late 1st for any of the available players, since it would have ciut in to our cap space to get a FA.

I would have been ecstatic to get Arthur, Jordan or Chalmers, but we just didn't have the goods to get a deal done. We didn't even have a 2nd this year to offer, and as i said, the Utah #1 was probably to costly to give up.

Not sure I agree the Utah # would have been too much to give up. Keep in mind, that pick COULD ultimately turn out to just be a 2nd rd pick. Also, factor in that the Sixers reportedly gave serious consideration to using pick 16 on Jordan (probably even more if Speights was off the board when we picked). So if they thought Jordan was worth 16 in what they said was a deep draft, then there is a good chance that the Utah pick will be worth even less than pick 35 in this draft (where Jordan went). Remember that Utah pick can never be a lottery pick, so at best you are going to be looking at similar level talent as Jordan with that pick in a future year. It's going to be a player who has a lot of question marks around them. If they really felt Jordan has a legit NBA future, I would have thrown that Utah pick in without thinking twice (unless Ed already has a trade lined up for a PF that will include that pick).

I think if Jordan even ends up being a good back-up (Diop level) then your thinking is correct.
