Plans are for Love to join second-round draft pick Nikola Pekovic at the Wolves' summer league in Las Vegas in two weeks.
The Wolves are expected to have nearly $6 million to spend on a free agent or two this summer. Their goal is to eventually get nearly $18 million under the salary cap to be able to spend more on free agents.
Timberwolves fans can expect more trading next year at NBA draft time. That's because the Wolves could have three first-round picks and two second-round picks. The second-round picks obtained in the Kevin Love-O.J. Mayo deal are expected to be those of Philadelphia and Indiana. The Pistons will get the Wolves' second-round pick.
Kevin McHale seems upbeat and intent on remaining as head of the Timberwolves' basketball operations at least long enough to make the team a contender again.
The Timberwolves are expected to sign free-agent point guard John Lucas, who played part of last season with the Houston Rockets.

The Grizzlies called just after the Wolves agreed to the Miami trade. Suddenly, the Wolves now have just one point guard, Foye, under contract.
"Twenty minutes and Mayo and Marko and everybody was gone," McHale said. "That was the way it worked. We almost wanted to call Miami and see if we could take [Chalmers] back, but I don't think that would have worked."
The Grizzlies have a glut of guards. McHale thought about asking for a guard back in the deal, then reconsidered.
"At that point, muddying up the deal was not going to help," McHale said. "I really had a feeling there was a huge contingency in Memphis who didn't want to do it. In fact, I know that. They told me that."
