What the 76ers free agent survey says

Post#1 » by is1531 » Sun Jun 29, 2008 4:26 pm

After 1800 votes were taken, the fans want the 76ers to sign a PF to help the team. It was 52% for PF and just 25% for shooting guard. It's not that simple. If Plan A does not work, you have to move on to plan B. Plan B could very well be a shooting guard, which throws the survey in the garbage. If the 76ers go to plan C , which could be a trade for Rashad McCants, that would be even harder to execute, since Minnesota probably would only be interested in Iggy or Big Sam. That takes care of that. I was intrigued by McCants 3 point shooting, but even more impressed that he never played a single minute the year before, but averaged 14 points a game this season. I think he fits a better role for the 76ers than Raymond Felton. Felton is a lousy 3 point shooter as a point PG. McCants plays the 2 guard and hits trays a t a rate of 40%. Help! :D :)

I'm getting dizzy. I feel like we're going around in circles and circles on all of the threads. Tuesday can't get here soon enough.

RMcants is like option Z if he is even that high.

There is little to no chance the Sixers don't upgrade the PF position. There are too many options and not enough buyers.

It's as I said elsewhere... I think Stefanski is well aware of the cost of Shawn Marion and he's prepared to pay it if he strikes out with Smith, Brand, and possibly Okafor. I'm sure he had talks with Miami as sixerfan reported, they discussed the cost of Marion and Ed ended the talks by telling Miami... "listen, I'm going to first see what happens with Brand and Smith". If Brand doesn't opt-out and Atlanta matches for Smith, I'll deal for Marion".

No need for a Plan Z when you already have Plan B in the bag.

TGP is correct. Mr. Stefanski certainly has at least a Plan A, B and C so I'm not concerned whether or not our GM is prepared to turn on a dime or not.

I think plan A has a very good chance of materializing. Many on this board thought Brand would be unavailable based on comments from Baylor and Dunleavey but, as we know, many of these types of statements amount to nothing more than smoke.

The simple fact that the Clips entertained a Marion and the 2 for Brand and the 7, even for a short time period indicates that Brand CAN be had for the right deal. Historically the Sterling-owned Clippers have opted for financial relief than any other stategy. We can absorb 11.5M in salary, provide another servicable player and even offer a big man project. If Maggette walks the combination of cap relief from the two transactions would put the Clips under the cap where they traditionally live and breathe.

Or they could go after a BDavis or Agent Zero, two guys that would be much better fits to thier needs than another SF like Marion.
