C.J Miles - What's his status?
Hey guys, Raptor fan here with just a quick question.
What exactly is your teams stance on C.J Miles. He's a restricted free agent this summer and definitely has some promise.
He's pretty much my #1 target as a low risk/high reward signing for a cheap contract if we we're able to get him.
So, how do you guys feel about him? Management? What kind of offer would it take to pry him away, if at all?
I know the Jazz have some other young SG's in Brewer, Almond and Korver so is there room for him?
Anyways, that's all I wanted to know. Jazz are one of my more favourite teams in the league, so good luck with you guys and I like the pick of Koufas too, solid player, good BPA pick.

I don't think that the Jazz are going to let Miles go. Harpring doesn't have much left in the tank, and we are going to need someone who can backup AK. Miles has great upside, and it looks like he is going to have a promising future with this team.

I doubt the Jazz would match a full mid-level offer, but I think they will match any reasonable offer.

With that said, guys like Vuajic, Posey and perhaps JR Smith have earned themselves those kind of contracts, in what limited action CJ had he hasnt. I cant see any reasonable owner paying him more then 3 mil a yr, which the Jazz will match. Im worried about Seattle, because Troy Weaver is their new assistant GM. Otherwise I dont see any team offering him something we wouldnt match.
I wouldnt be surprised if the Jazz try and work something with CJ out and not let it drag on to the point where he signs an offer sheet. I think both sides would listen to a reasonable offer. Something like 8 mil over 3 yrs.

I tend to agree. I think we'd match anything half-of-the-MLE or under.
I'm not as sold on CJ as some other folks on here, but he definitely looked more poised this last season and I'd like to hold on to him. Harpring has two more productive seasons in him probably -- maybe even one -- and then we'll need big minutes out of CJ or Almond.

Here is how I believe it work this offseason.
Most teams haven't seen enough of CJ to offer him all that much money, and the Jazz have seen enough of him to realize that he's probably worth match anything under 3 mil per year.

Re: C.J Miles - What's his status?
CJ is best skilled Jazz wing cause of his ability to score from inside and outside. Most of Jazz fans and most of coaching staff do not realize it.
CJ needs more strength and more playing time. Paying him full MLE is no risk - he is the one capable of dunking on Amare and shooting .400 from perimeter, at age of 21.

I should be on Lacob payroll...

Full MLE is certainly overpaying for him.

Re: C.J Miles - What's his status?
I really hope the Jazz keep CJ and he sees an expanded role next season. He's going into his 4th year in the league and is still just a kid (he was part of the last straight from high school draft class). He's long, athletic, and has a pretty sweet left handed jump shot.
CJ is a fan favorite and management favorite and he's a good kid. He does what he's asked and stays out of trouble. It would be a shame for the Jazz to see someone else benefit from our patience and development of him as a player.
I hope he gets an offer from someone that we can match so we can lock him up for a few years. A 4 year deal for 10 million would be reasonable.

Re: C.J Miles - What's his status?
The jazz have invested a few years in him already, I would hate for that to go to waste by him signing with another team for an offer that management can't match. I am tired of watching harpring miss layups. We need CJ in the regular rotation NOW. That being said, he still needs to put on about 15-20 pounds. If he can do that, he will become a very productive option for our team.
The jazz have made a qualifying offer, and I don't think any other team will offer anything that we will be unable to match. When all is said and done, I do think he will be a member of the jazz for the 08-09 season.

if cj adds that weight it may take away from his game, he is a very athletic quick player. Kinda like a tayshaun prince for build, CJ could bulk up but i dont think he necessarily needs to. Would love to see him as a the backup sf this year, matt you had a solid career walk away.

What about a sign and trade?

who is gonna give him more then 6mil per season? Why would the Jazz do that anyway, nobody in their right mind would do something like that and Utah wont trade him on a cheap contract.

Exactly, the Jazz would only do a sign and trade if someone offered him a very high amount of money and the Jazz felt they they needed to get something in return.
They'll bring him back is my guess, and I also think they are hoping someone sets a low value for him before they match, which I assume they are planning on doing pretty much regardless.

Re: C.J Miles - What's his status?
It's gonna take one hell of an offer to get CJ... Like mentioned before, CJ is a favorite of fans and management alike.
He's got a great attitude, and an even better upside. He's one player on this team that make AK tradeable, he's the only player that can step in and not lose that much on the stat sheet.

I wouldnt be surprised if Utah just tries to settle it so he can play in the RMR. If he has a reasonable agent I think both parties can agree on a 3 yr deal(3rd yr PO) for 8 mil.

And honestly that is plenty generous for what CJ has shown so far. That is a fair deal all the way around.

Agreed.
