Eddie House...? stay or go?

Post#1 » by buckner1976 » Sat Jun 28, 2008 9:34 am

weve been debating on whether the writing is on the wall for tony with these 2 picks. some say yes he comes back others say no we wont resign him. but what about eddie? and when i say this unlike the tony situation where the question is will we want him back, for eddie i think the question is will HE want to stay??

pruitts gonna be pushing for time this season. weve just added 2 athletic wings, one of which doc and danny seem to firmly believe can play right away next year. add that to posey who they want to resign. houses minutes could really be squeezed. add on top of that how he was unceremoniously dumped from the backup pg position by doc for a guy who arguably was the worst celtic player in the playoffs and maybe eddie seriously questions whether he wants to stay here. im a HUGE eddie fan myself but if posey comes back, much to my dismay, i could really see eddie looking for greener pastures again.

Damn, if Eddie goes, who's going to hit that eff-you 3 with 2 minutes to go and a 17 point lead? I think Eddie led the league in "3's that gave their team a 20 point lead in the 4th quarter".

I like Eddie too, I wouldn't mind if he stuck around as our backup PG, but there are better options out there too. I'd offer him the same deal he got this year, only for 2 years.

Posey is a given to be signed. With House, it depends on Gabe, if Doc feels Gabe can handle the pg spot then he is gone , if not, he stays.

i think regardless of how pruitt fares i think they want to sign a vet as insurance. i have the feeling though house is not who they have in mind for this. maybe lue or ollie even. and if so i think that spells the end for eddie here. i felt eddies ballhandling issues were overblown bt if rondo went down i know doc wouldnt feel comfortable with eddie and pruitt though i feel they could feasibly do the job.

Eddie House for Three!

I'd miss that. He turned into a plus defender down the stretch IMO, however he's undersized, can't leap, doesn't shoot off the dribble or penetrate, is a 2 in a small 1 body.....if there's room and can be signed reasonably....keep him. Has he ever missed a clutch shot or foul shot??

I agree that Doc most likely wants a vet pg as a back up, if Rondo goes down. House does not fill that description. Don't get me wrong I think House is a good role player for this team, but with the cap and the players we have, he is a luxury.

I want eddie back, but, he played too much last year.He is a shooter. I want him nowhere near the point guard.

What about Sam? From what Doc said it seems like he might be back as well. If I were Eddie I wouldn't stick around if Sam and Pruitt were both going to be forcing their way into my minutes. Then we have the rumors about Lue and JWill, who even if Sam goes, may end up taking almost all of Eddie's minutes.

We need Eddie House. We saw how great our team is when he is used properly. When Eddie is on the floor with the Big 3 and Posey we have a devastating offensive attack. Pierce and Garnett are either single covered or Ray, Posey or Eddie are wide open for 3. Ray and Eddie have such quick releases that they can get shot off before defense can recover. Posey at the 4 has a quick enough release that most PF's can't defend 3.

We didn't use that lineup much in playoffs until the finals and that lineup destroyed the Lakers and was our best lineup offensively.

I think House can get an offer like 3yrs/10 mill from someone and will probably take that. I can see us only offering him a similar one year deal as last year.

House was solid for us this year, but as much as I like him he could pretty easily be upgraded. I'd like to see him in green again, but I've got my doubts.

I would want to keep Eddie. He was good for us last season and we still need his outside shooting. He also played decent defense all year and provided great hussle and energy. He also helped us win a championship so you can't agrue with the results.

I am surprised how many people think Eddie is easily replaceable. Tell me a better veteran shooter we can get for 1,5 mio per year...Sure we can get better PG`s but that is not what we need. We signed House to shoot the ball and there aren`t many in this league that are better at it than him...

There are several independent decisions involved with Eddie, but ultimately, it will come down to # of guaranteed years.

Rondo is the starter.

The Celtics (Doc & Danny) were never comfortable in their backup point guard from a ball handling/running the team perspective. Unfortunately, in the playoffs, it's clear that your backup must also be able to hit an open shot.

Pruitt has shown nothing to warrant the job from an offensive perspective, although defensively he can get the job done.

Doc likes players who can push the ball, Jason Williams of Miami would fill that bill.

Tyronn Lue has a better shot, and is friends with Kevin Garnett and Doc Rivers, but that doesn't mean that he would necessarily get the call over Jason Williams. Tyronn Lue is a better ball handler than House. I suspect that one of these two veteran point guards will be brought in to provide someone who can protect the ball in the playoffs should anything happen to Rondo, including just resting him.

House, however, has a better shot than Lue or Williams, which is important when you need instant offense. House also has tremendous chemistry. There is no way that I see Pruitt bumping any of these guys. Lue has two championship rings for a reason, and Williams has one also.

So, my guess is that if the Celtics can nab Eddie House again, and one of Tyron Lue or Jason Williams, than Pruitt will be sent off for a second round pick.

We really need to resign Eddie House. I think he was the most underrated and under-appreicated Celtic last year. The guy is instant offense on the bench, and one of the Top 10 three-point shooters in the league. He is the perfect backup to Rajon Rondo, two guys with opposite strengths.

I will really disappointed if we let him go, he was instrumental in us winning the championship this year.

There are better options out there. House is a spot up shooter nothing else really. He did an ok job running the point, but I think Pruitt could easily do what house did if that's all we want from our vet backup.
Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
