What team has the highest average draft position?

Post#1 » by treis » Mon Jun 30, 2008 4:21 am

What team has the highest average draft position for their roster? Count undrafted as being drafted 61st, and ignore undrafted international players. For example, the Bulls are:

Rose (1), Hinrich (7), Duhon (38)
Gordon (3), Hughes (8), Thabo (13)
Deng (7), Nocioni (N/A)
Thomas (2), Gooden (4), Simmons (15)
Noah (9), Gray (49)

That comes out to an average draft position of ~13. Any team have a higher average draft position than that?

seems silly to count undrafted but (conveniently) ignore undrafted international players.

I would imagine the Hawks and the Clippers having pretty high ones.

Aldridge would be more so considered 4th than 2nd

Tyrus would be 4th pick, not 2nd.

How so? Aldridge was drafted with the 2nd pick in the draft, regardless if he was traded or not. He was with 2nd pick.

Detroit only has 10 signed players, so I will include the unsigned draft picks just to give them a full roster.

C. Billups 3/R. Stuckey 15
R. Hamilton 7/A. Afflalo 27
T. Prince 23/W. Sharpe 32/D. Washington 59
A. McDyess 2/J. Maxiell 26/A. Johnson 56
R. Wallace 4/T. Plaisted 46/C. Samb 51

Average: 27

Detroit so far has the fewest lottery picks with only 4. I'm sure San Antonio is close to that.

1.) Koponen isn't on Portland's roster. He doesn't count.
2.) Batum was drafted #25 not #24

Average should be 13.7

I'm pretty sure no one can top the warriors 28th average as a roster, and 25 as a starting lineup.

Well the Kings have a 25.3 Score, of course if you drop SAR that goes to 27. Also last year our starting lineup had a score of 38.4, which I know no team will beat. Ouch.

C Miller(61)/Hawes(10)/Thompson(12)
PF Moore(61)/Williams(5)/Thomas(22)/SAR(3)
SF Artest(16)/Garcia(23)
SG Martin(26)/Salmons(26)
PG Beno?(28)/Douby?(19)/Singletary?(42)

Sorry, but that's wrong. Aldridge is still the 2nd pick, regardless of the fact that he was traded.
