The Tinsley Thread - All Things Droopy

If the Pacers can't trade Jamaal Tinsley, they're buying him out. They reached that decision even before they stocked up on point guards by dealing for T.J. Ford and Jarrett Jack. Tinsley has three years left on his deal, in excess of $21 milllion.

I HATE buying out contracts, especially one with 3 years left on it. That is such a give up move and one that hurts the franchise even moreso than sending the guy home.

This just killed any chance we had of trading him.

I hate buyouts too...but I hate the idea of Tinsley sabotaging our rookies even more. I think Bird should call every team and ask, "What contract are you dying to get rid of?", and if Tinsley is in the general vicinity of a trade, offer it up.

I don't like this story of us buying him out like Scoot said it's a give up move, and this story hurts what slim chances we have of moving him in a trade. I'd defuse the story by saying he's hurt and send him home to rehab on his own, like I said in another thread hope for the medical retirement, but after a while the buyout talk dies down and we can say JT is healthy now who needs a PG? Someone will offer scraps and we'll gladly take them.

I think we should hold Tinlsey hostage. Do what we did with Artest. Ban him from the team and send him home, but don't buy him out.

Buying out contracts are annoying, yet, if he's not going to be happy don't let him mess up the chemistry...if it all ready isn't.

Apparently you didn't read the part about telling JT to go home. That means, we pay him, give him his physical therapy and pay for his rehab on his knee, and he doesn't set foot in Conseco Fieldhouse or travel with the team or hang out with any of the players. If we have to use a roster spot to do that until he can either play or be given a medical retirement than that's what I'm advocating and I think DGrangeRx33 and Scoot were as well. Send him home. Here's your paycheck and your new insurance card now get lost.

I'm not holding out any hope for a medical retirement on Tinsley. I simply think we can find someone in this league that is less wanted than Jamaal Tinsley; namely a Jared Jeffries, Jerome James, or in a package for a guy like Kenyon Martin.

There are other bad contracts out there, and at least Tinsley has talent. Otherwise, we'd be completely screwed.

Yeah if JT can be worked out and seen to be relatively healed up from his injury there are teams that will give him a look, and nearly every team in the league has a bad contract they'd like to dump. I think the Kings are the best shot they have 2 guys in SAR and Kenny Thomas and their PG situation is bleak.

I would love Kenyon Martin, thats a dream scenario for me. Tins/Murph for Martin.

I don't think this hurts our chances of trading Tinsley at all. We're not asking for much of anything at all, and the only way teams would rather wait for him to be bought out would be if they knew for a fact they were his first choice or were the only ones with room under the cap to sign him. The Knicks apparently want him, and if he gets bought out there's about a 0.73% chance he signs with them...

See that was a smokescreen for Bird's real plan..He is going to hire a guy from the streets to plant a kilo of heroin in Tinsley's car..Then Bird will proceed to anonymously call the police and then Tinsley will get busted..His contract will then be void and boom everything is great. This really should happen

Although I do hold out hope that Tinsley will be bought out....I think that it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that he will be bought out.

Why do you "hold out hope" for a Tinsley buy out? What advantage does that do for the team? Trading him for a Jeffries or SAR would be much better for the team, hell if Minny would do it I'd gladly take Brian Cardinal straight up.

i don't think bird needs to hire anyone from the street. Tinsley may be carrying a kilo with him during the off season already.

Trade him for anything. A future 2nd rounder if someone has the necessary cap space, Jared Jeffries, Kmart, a bag of peanuts and a soda.
Don't buy him out.

I suggest we trade him and williams to the nuggets for Chucky Atkins and Steven Hunter.

Glad that the Pacers and I are in agreement. I do not see a trade and will be curious to see what the buyout percentage will be.

If we still had that top 5 talent we gave away, perhaps we could have moved Tinsley instead of being in the position we are now. Thanks Larry!
