Sure, you already have Dalembert, lol. 11/10 and some shot-blocking doesn't suck from the 5-slot, does it?

Of course not.
But when Horford is younger than Aldridge, tests out just as athletic if not more so than Aldridge, how in the world can someone just flat out say that Aldridge has more upside?
This is clearly just because he's longer. Yet length is not the only way to measure upside.
Overall, it's an absurdly unfair comparison because Aldridge's game took off in his 2nd year.

I'm surprised that the voting is so one-sided, but I have to go with LMA as well.
Aldridge projects as a Gasol type, while Horford looks primed to become the next Horace Grant. Both were/are one-time All-Stars, but the 2nd-option skill set of the Gasol types will always win out in my mind.

Save that argument for the Oden/Howard comparison and the twin towers comparison.

I would have to see some measurables that suggest that Horford is just as athletic if not more than Aldridge. We alraedy know that Aldridge runs like a deer and jumps out of the gym. I do not see athleticism as being a staple of Horfords game. Maybe you meant to compare Josh Smiths athleticism to Aldridges?
I believe that Aldridge would have been a 14/7 rookie had he not had to suffer Zach Randolph. That fool should never of played before Aldridge. It is a shame his large contract meant he got to set Aldridges game back a year.

Aldridge:
No step vert - 26.5"
Max vert - 34"
Bench - 8 reps
Agility - 12.02
3/4 court sprint - 3.43 seconds
Horford:
No step vert - 31"
Max Vert - 35.5"
Bench - 20 reps
Agility - 12.15
3/4 court sprint - 3.37 seconds

Horford jumps higher, runs faster, and is stronger. He is more athletic than LMA in every category except agility. BTW you say you don't see much athleticism in Horford's game, then you probably haven't watched him play very much.

LOL Smith destroys LMA athletically.

Thin, University of Texas players picked second are known to be athletic, despite bad workout numbers.
And you honestly think Horford is faster? Man

Horford is very fast. And yes, the tests prove Horford is faster, and jumps higher. Don't let LMA's 6'11 frame and long arms make you think he jumps extremely high when he really doesn't. At best Aldridge has gained some speed and may be as fast or can jump as high as Horford. And, that's assuming Horford hasn't improved either, both of which are unlikely.

Re: LaMarcus Aldridge or Al Horford?
This is really a team needs question. Both are great in their respective roles, and will likely get better, but there isn't a lot of skills overlap, so it really depends on the makeup of the team your picking them for. If you need rebounding and already have a good offensive center, take Horford. If you need offense from the 4, take Aldridge.

OK Mr. "I watch LMA on a regular basis and he's really fast so he must be faster than Horford." You have nothing that suggests Aldridge is faster. The only evidence supports Horford. Don't make a matter of fact statement when you have absolutely nothing to back it up.

Re: LaMarcus Aldridge or Al Horford?
Horford is very athletic. He just played C for a playoff team for an entire season while having slightly below average height and below average standing reach. I've seen a lot of both players, and neither is clearly more athletic than the other. But saying its crazy to think Horford is more athletic is, well, crazy.

I think people just assume that Aldridge is faster because Horford is bulkier, and people associate bulk with slow. They are actually the same weight and LMA is a little over an inch taller, so their really isn't much difference other than Horford being much stronger. Horford is extremely athletic for his size, most people don't understand if they don't watch him.

Re: LaMarcus Aldridge or Al Horford?
Im suprised that there is such a strong debate about horford's athleticism because I thought it was generally accepted that he was a great athlete, at least as much so as LMA coming out of school.
This is a hard comparison, because I would take Josh Smith over LMA, but I think I would take LMA over Horford (although most Hawks fans would take Horford over Josh Smith).
Tough one...

Um...I watched about 70 games for aldridge, and about 20 some for Horford. I really like Atlanta's team, and was watching them as much as possible.
The only evidence to support Horford being faster is a one time sprint by Aldridge 2 and a half years ago against a one time sprint by Horford one and a half years ago.

Yes, and there is ZERO evidence that says Aldridge is faster. They are both fast and jump relatively well for their size, with Horford jumping a little higher. They are so close that they are probably even in speed, and Horford is stronger.

This argument is going no where.
Any way, scoreboard. Aldridge 51 (78%), Horford 14 (21%)
