If Starbury is waived, will he get picked up?

Post#1 » by magicfan4life05 » Tue Jul 1, 2008 8:53 pm

by a team though, not the cops...

I just can't see anyone bringing this guy on their team...whether it be a contender or rebuilding team...do you think your team would sign him at the minimum if he was available?

I think Step still has 1-2 years left in him and I think he will stay with NYK. He's better than a lot of people give him credit for. If put in the right situation, he can be a good contributor to the team.

I would be much more inclined to say Miami would take a shot if Riley were still coaching. As is, I think the chance is greatly diminished by a rookie head coach...

I wouldn't be completely shocked if Rockets takes a chance on him. I mean.... we still have Stevie Franchise on the roster.

hes still so much better than any Free Agent PG.......he can shoot the 3(37%)..he can score close to 15 ppg.....He wont chuck up shots cause he really cares about his 8assists per game career average ...

Hope Miami goes after him..

I can't see any team pick him up with that contract. The only way that contract will be moved is around the midseason when either A) a team is just on the verge, and if he's playing well they'll take the chance; or B) a team knows they're out of it and really wants the cap relief.

Now...the more interesting question is if Marbury is bought out by the Knicks would a team take a chance on him; and to that I believe that the answer is yes. It would be dependant on him showing up to try out for teams in shape and hungry to prove a lot of people wrong, and like Clincher says, he could still have a good 1-2 years left.

Or....he could accept the buyout and just stop trying hard. I could see that happening too, sadly enough.

I'm pretty sure the OP means if he is waived and not picked up on waivers. No team has the space to pick up his contract as is. I assume he means will anyone sign him once he clears waivers.

Miami has Marcus Banks, Mario Chalmers and Chris Quinn. Riley could roll the dice on a 1 year rental.

Yes he is, as is Ben Udrih, whom I think will get a lot of attention as a free agent.

My top free agent PG's would be:

Baron Davis
Gilbert Arenas (who's youth may put him over)
Ben Udrih

After that, I don't know. It's hard to judge Marbury as none of us have seen what he can do for a while now. It isn't a knock on Marbury, it's just a legitimate question. With the three guys I listed you know what you're getting. Yes, even tho Arenas just came off of injury himself.

- edit - NM, just saw that Udrih and the Kings came to terms on a deal.

My bad, yeah that's what I meant. After he clears waivers, does anyone think he will be picked up by a team?

He definitely will... he's still a very effective and skilled offensive player, has good size for a PG, is tough, and has shown when committed, is a good, capable defensive player.

He may be picked by a contending team, but his attitude will be a problem. BTW MartyConlonJr, your sig is brilliant

I think the Celts would be interested if he would play backup point.
