I'll wait to pass judgement on their team. They are really thin and Boston wasn't a contender until they got Posey, House etc. So I'll wait to see how they fill out their roster and if they compliment the team.

I think they need a strong perimeter defender, maybe go after Pietrus or Tony Allen and a defensive minded big. If they could somehow trade Mobley for one of those positions, I think they are set. They still have Knight to backup Davis right? He is going to be a great backup if they keep him.

Knight is on contract for one more year, so yes, he will back up BD.

Mobley is a decent, physical defender, but Q-Ross was the best defender on the team last season. We should look to re-sign Q.

Well I like this signing from the Clippers. Sterling is saying that he wants the team to be relevant and is willing to fork over some cash. He is slowly opening up his checkbook after all these years.

Well the Thomas signing still makes me  . Honestly the guy has not earned a 1/5th of all his career earnings.

It was a decent signing at the time...we thought we'd be getting '06 Suns playoff Thomas. We got the same old Bucks/Knicks Thomas instead. The Clips were scrambling to find a replacement for Radmanovic when he bolted to the other locker room at Staples.\

But yeah, Sterling's wallet has been open for a few years now. They're finally getting their own practice facility this season too.

Maggette gets the shaft on this one, but then again, word is he is set to sign with the Spurs for the full MLE. Kind of hard to feel too bad for him.

This whole deal stinks of tampering, I would not be surprised at all to see Golden State file a complaint. That is of course after they try and turn the deal into a S&T. Sort of like the Rashard Lewis deal last year. They would create a pretty fat TPE in the process, which could allow them to do a S&T of their own. Then they could still maintain their exceptions and their rights to all of their free agents. Of course if they can't come up with a realistic S&T and want to sign someone outright, they could just renounce everyone which would put them in the same position they are now.

2008-09 Line-Up:
PG - Baron Davis/Brevin Knight/Mike Taylor
SG - Cuttino Mobley/Eric Gordon/Nick Fazeakus
SF - Al Thornton/Tim Thomas/Yaroslav Korolev
PF - Elton Brand/Josh Powell/Marcus Williams
C - Chris Kaman/DeAndre Jordan/Paul Davis

That's a 15-man squad right there and if Mike Taylor or Yaroslav Korolev fall through then you can go after Shaun Livingston if he hasn't been signed away yet.

I thought at the time that giving any sort of guaranteed money to Tim Thomas would be a disaster, and what a shock he is sucking it up. But don't worry you should get a good year out of him in '09-'10, it's a contract year and all.

btw, it's not like the Laker's did much better that year and they are stuck with Vlad for an extra year.

Clips are gonna be damn scary, Baron/Brand/Kaman with solid role players like Mobley, Thornton, Gordon and Ross. Even Thomas isn't a bad player in a more win now situation.

I literally laughed out loud when I read this quote:

"From a basketball standpoint it's always been about winning for Baron," his agent Todd Ramasar told the Los Angeles Times. "This presented a good opportunity to do that to pair him with Chris Kaman..."

Clippers are clearly the first team that comes to my mind when I think of winning...

They are if you play with the best PF/C combo in the NBA.

Wow. West is going to be great. Warriors are out but the Clippers and possibly the Blazers are in contention.

Wow, never thought I would see the day the Clippers would make a smart move. If they make a couple more free agent signings for depth and stay healthy, they could be really scary.
