It's pretty stupid how our young guys can't play, but this is still a pretty good team regardless.

Shawne Williams is easily the best talent on the roster, and rightfully so, but I like Stanley Burrell, and there may be an outside chance he makes the team if Shawne or Quis are moved.

Glad, I get to see Pete Campbell rain threes a couple more times too.

Why cant our young guys play? And watch out for Earl Calloway. He played well in the D-League last year and I wouldnt be surprised to see him invited to some teams' training camp (although probably not ours).

Edit: Nevermind, I didnt realize that the summer league started next week. That explains why our young guys cant play.

Calloway is really quick and hustles on top of that...I don't think he has the ability to play in the NBA yet though. He'd be okay for a team that's looking to develop a second stringer, but who wants to do that with so many guys that are already second string material already in the league? I can see him landing in the NBA sometime in the next 3 years, but as of now I don't really see anywhere he fits. I'd like to be wrong on this one, though.

As to the summer leaguers, isn't Shawne already under contract? How many guys will we have under contract when the two trades go through? And I know TJ's BYC is holding up the Toronto trade, but what's holding up the Portland trade?

Yes, Shawne is under contract, but I'm not sure why he's not on the summer league roster. {EDIT: Disregard...I misunderstood your question and didn't see Shawne at the bottom of the list.]

As to what's holding up the Portland trade, it only works under the salary cap with 2008-2009 salaries. This past season (which is in effect through July 1 (9th w/ moratorium)) the salaries for Jack & McRoberts only totald $1,645k, and Ike's $2,282 exceeded the 125% + $100k threshold. This coming season Jack & McBob get $2,714 vs. Ike's $2,913, so we have to wait until those salaries are in effect.

So does that mean all of our other players will get to play on portland and Torontos Roster. I didn't if that could happen. Maybe a part of Birds agreement?

No. Any of the guys involved in the trades cannot play on summer league teams for their "new" teams. Bayless and Diogu can't play for Portland until the trade goes down, and the same goes for Jawai.

If the new guys can't play for us yet, the old guys can't play for their new teams.

However, I'm not entirely clear on whether Bayless could, for example, play for our summer league team. I would think it would be extremely unlikely for any team to want their new players to risk injury in a summer league game in the midst of a transaction, so I don't think it would ever happen, but I don't know if that is expressly forbidden or just a standard choice made by the teams involved.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

Yeah, Bayless could play for us, but that does nothing but jeopardize his health and jeopardize any deal that the teams have already worked out. There's really no reason for Bayless to risk his health to play for the Pacers, the team he's not even going to play for.

I agree that nobody in the trade should play. I was just unclear on the actual rule.

Marco Killingsworth! Hahaha, I forgot all about that guy. We need to just say, "screw summer league" this year. Our young guys cant play, so lets get a roster full of guys like Killingsworth, Bracey Wright, Earl Calloway, and a bunch of Purdue and Butler guys. Just for nostaligia's sake.

So Ndudi Ebi and Julius Hodge are trying to make it back in the league, and Marco Killingsworth is still holding on trying to make it IN the league.

Justin Gray was a stud in college who I loved to watch play. I would love it if he could find a spot on the team.

Return to Indiana Pacers
