What about Stephen Jackson? He's not going to want to stay on GS now.

Maggette for the MLE is a bargain, if thats what it takes I'd do it in an instant...but I'd think he'd get more than that, no?

after players saw what the celtics did, I think they'd be jumping on teams like LAL, BOS, SAS, etc to try to push those contenders up a knotch and win the ship, even if it means taking a smaller salary for 2 or 3 years

Bottom line is C-Mag is lookin to get paid, he just left 7.4 mil on the table why would he take the MLE ?
Especially when it's only 6 mil ?

Duh ahh I don't get it folk.....................He ain't coming to the Lakers.

Beacause no one can offer more than the mid level except:

Philly - who won't because they have wings (Iggs, Young, Williams) and need bigs
Memphis - who also has wings (Gay Mayo  ) and he wouldn't go there anyway

If the Clips sign Baron and Brand they have to renounce Maggette, so no sign and trade

If that happens though now the Warriors enter the picture and they could offer more then the MLE and will probably throw some money at Maggette so he may end up there if he really was looking for more money. But realistically there is pretty much only the MLE out there now for him so he doesn't have much choice.

The teams who have shown interest are many, including the San Antonio Spurs, Boston Celtics (who reportedly deny it) and Orlando Magic. Maggette, who is represented by Rob Pelinka (Kobe Bryant's agent), is interested in staying locally with the Los Angeles Lakers but it's not clear if the other LA team is interested.

WTF Mitch and Buss!! Get on that! Kobe start talkin to Rob and Corey and get this done, we REALLY don't want to play SA or NO (or Boston) with one more legit scoring threat. If we sign him it gives us a ton more flexibility with Lamar.

mitch seems to be focused on signing sasha and ronny, and until he does that (or doesn't get it done) he probably won't be looking to hard at other free agents

Corey doesn't exactly address our most glaring needs but if all it takes is the MLE then you have to jump on that. Maggette is worth more than the MLE but for the reasons supaflash stated, there is a chance that that's what he'll have to settle for, if only for a year. Focusing on Sasha and Ronny is no excuse for passing on this opportunity if it presents itself. NBA GM's need to have their eyes and ears open to everything that's going on at all times. That's their job.

Getting Maggette would be great, but the Lakers really need help on the defensive end, not more offense.

in retrospect, we had the player that everyone is looking to add this offseason, a gritty defensive forward with a consistent offensive game. Caron Butler would have been great on this team had Kupchak traded Odom instead of Butler for Kwame. forget LO's tools and size...it means nothing if you can't bring it every night. Caron showed he could help carry a team after Arenas went down for the season.

i know, i know...no point crying over spilled milk, but looking at our team now, he would have been the perfect fit on this team. i'd trade LO and a player for Caron in a heartbeat.

Gotta make a try 4 it deep 3. We don't need 2 c him in a Spurs uni without pulling some strings ourselves. Everyone is saying Lamar's ship may sell if he doesn't prove himself by the trade deadline. If we have Corey we already have the SF void filled & like you stated before, Lamar has 1 of the biggest expiring contracts coming up, so if we catch somebody tryin to bust their mother load by the trade dead line it just gives us more pieces to play with :hoop:
