No love for the Suns?

Post#1 » by walkingart » Wed Jul 2, 2008 6:57 am

It seems to me that when reporters or columnist talk about the elite teams in the west they name the Lakers, Hornets, Spurs, and Jazz.

Despite the fact that the Suns ended the season with a better record then the Jazz. I know the Jazz have a good, young team; but, outside of Deron and Carlos, they are not the most inconsistent team with AK and Okur going up and down in production from year to year. Also, the Rockets had a better record then the Jazz as well, and despite getting bounced in the playoffs by the Jazz, if healthy, I believe they will have a better record once again next year. Also, the Hornets went from out of the playoffs to one of the elite teams in the west; can they sustain their winning ways?

Which brings me to the question, now that free agency talks have begun, the draft is over, our roster is most likely set (barring a trade, a PG that will get limited minutes, a vet big who won't play);
What are your expectations for next season?

I expect to easily make the playoffs, challenge the Lakers for the Pacific Division title, and make it out of the first round of the playoffs (at the very least).

What do you expect from this team?

I don't expect anything. The Suns perform the best when there are no expectations placed on them.

I agree with burningheart, nobody next year expects the Suns to do anything. But, ive watched this team closesly the past 4 seasons and know to never count this team out.

We still got great players like Stoudemire, Shaq, Nash, along with good role players like Bell, Diaw, Barbosa, Hill. So whoever think we cant challenge Lakers for first seed and go further in the playoffs then last year is out of their mind.

I'm really excited to see how our coach utilizes new young players and we should figure out how to finally play with Shaq with a whole year ahead of us.

I'm easy going about us, clearly wanting the best but not expecting a lot...
Agreed with BurningHeart, we perform better when the expectations are low and we're the underdogs...apart from the first round last year of course ;)

I'm expecting a season very similar to the Spurs. Take it easy in the regular season, rest up all the old dudes by going fairly deep on the bench, and leave plenty in the tank for May/June. And honestly, it's what we have to do. Look at Boston. That's what they did this season, and the most unlikely guys stepped in and had HUGE games in the Finals when Perkins and Rondo were injured. If we were in the same situation and Shaq or Nash got hurt...SWEEP, plain and simple. We need to follow those examples, and I know Terry Porter will do that because that's what they did in Detroit.

It's crazy though. All I hear on ESPN is how the Suns are done. Every time they talk about a new free agent signing in the NBA or the draft results they automatically bump another team into the "elite" level and disregard us when talking about the other elite teams. It's actually pretty funny because the only difference is Shaq instead of Marion. The results of last season were not indicative of this team at all. We're gonna shock the world 8-)

I'm not expecting anything other than a playoff berth. Doesn't even matter what seed so long as we're in.
My Frontline is Bigger Than Your Frontline

Robin Lopez 7-1 (LOL)
Amare Stoudemire 6-10 (???)
