John Lucas

Post#1 » by Kurosawa » Tue Jul 1, 2008 2:44 pm

The more I read, hear, and think about it, the more I think it's doubtful Bassy will be back. He has his heart set on starting (and stardom), and in a market where a lot of teams need PGs, someone (not the Timberwolves) will overpay for him.

John Lucas III, formerly of Houston who was out of the league last year, has been mentioned as a candidate for the backup PG role. Anybody have the skinny on him--his strengths and weaknesses; where (if anyplace) he played last year (Europe?); etc. I know he's short (5-11), quick, and not much of a scorer. Can he defend? Is he a decent playmaker?

I think that your Bassy scenario is prolly true. Only glimmer of hope I have is that he had virtually his first year of success here in Minny, so he might not want to mess with a good thing and end up like his cousin.

he's a pretty smart defender and he's quick, but he's a bit of a liability on offense; even though he's really quick, he's not much of a threat off the drive because his finishing needs work, and his J doesn't drop with much regularity

I'd like him as a 3rd PG, not a backup

Out of the league last year

That probably tells us all we need to know about him....

My gut tells me either Lucas or Neitzel is on the team next year. Hopefully in addition to Telfair, but that's doubtful.
