Jose Calderon vs. Andre Miller
Had an interesting discussion at home today with some friends - who maintain that Jose Calderon is a better player than Andre Miller - and after comparing the two, I thought it might make for a fun thread.
"Who do you got?"

Re: Jose Calderon vs. Andre Miller
Jose is a really good point guard. Great shot, good distributor and a really good teammate. But it is undeniable the effect Andre Miller has on a game. Jose often shades into the background of the game to the point you don't even notice him there. Andre Miller was a game changer on Denver and Philly. You gotta go with Andre here.

Re: Jose Calderon vs. Andre Miller
Calderon is a better shooter. Their playmaking is about on par, but Jose will have to improve his defense to inch past Andre Miller, who has experience on his side.

Re: Jose Calderon vs. Andre Miller
Dre isn't a good shooter the way Jose is but he's a similarly deliberate point guard who's also shown himself to be able to thrive in an up-tempo offense (Calderon continuously misses chances to push because he's cautious).
Dre is a great post-up guard and a better defender, too, I think I have to take Miller for now.

Re: Jose Calderon vs. Andre Miller
They are both pretty **** slow-footed defenders, but I'll give Dre a slight advantage because he is stronger and can defend better in the post (not that PG's defend in the post often, though).
I think Calderon is the better option for a team surrounded by talent.......for example he would be a better fit on the Celtics. Although Dre looks to create shots for others before himself as well, he tends to pound the ball a little too much for my liking. His insistance on punding the ball also limits his effectiveness in half-court situations where I think Calderon has an advantage.
Overall I would have to choose Calderon........he can shoot the ball and does eat donuts all summer showing up to training camp fat as hell.

Re: Jose Calderon vs. Andre Miller
It really does depend on the team; Miller might have been the better player overall in '07/'08, but I would guess that two-thirds or more of the teams in the league would prefer Calderon, even if there wasn't an age difference.

**** your asterisk.

Similar playmakers, maybe a slight advantage to Miller, but I think I'd go with Jose, great shooter, free throw shooter, and in the last 4-5 months of the season wasn't he putting up like 15pts, 10ast, 55 FG%, 42 3PT%, and 92 FT%? It was something ridiculous I remember, and very similar to Nash.

Miller is probably the better defender, but Calderon can be lethal with his outside shooting if his confident

I think Calderon's ability to really shoot the ball is what does it for me; I'll go with Jose.

Calderon is so efficient, but has to really improve his defense. I
I'll go with Andre Miller for now but I think Calderon will continue to improve, hopefully on the defensive end.

Calderon is the better playmaker and shooter, but Miller is the better rebounder and scorer, but I will say Jose.

Re: Jose Calderon vs. Andre Miller
Both very interesting points in this league who can pass with the best of them. I couldn't stand Dre's lack of an outside shot when he was here in Denver, but his post game is rare to find in a point guard and brings alot of intangibles. As much as I wish we hadnt given up Dre in the Iverson deal, I'ld prefer Jose on this current Nuggets team for his outside shooting to spread the floor. Dre Iverson and Melo would have gotten killed by teams packing the lanes.

Re: Jose Calderon vs. Andre Miller
I'd probably take Dre's superior defense and size over Calderon's shooting ability but the gap between them is very close and Calderon has more room to improve. For now it's probably Dre but they are both great decision makers with the ability to distribute and control the tempo of an offense.
Go Raps!!

Re: Jose Calderon vs. Andre Miller
All things considered, if Jose could play even a lick of defense, i don't think this should really be close at all. But in reality, he can't; so it's close but the answer is still Jose.
