Could we be free of Terry's albatross of a contract?

Dallas Trade Breakdown

Incoming Players
Cuttino Mobley
6-4 SG from Rhode Island

Tim Thomas
6-10 SF / PF from Villanova

Brevin Knight
5-10 PG from Stanford

Outgoing Players
Jason Terry
6-2 PG from Arizona

Jerry Stackhouse
6-6 SG / SF from North Carolina

Brandon Bass
6-8 PF from Lousiana State

Why does the Clips take Terry? Because Magette is gone. They can afford to have a 6ft 2in SG next to Baron Davis. Stack they take to waive and save cap money (Sterling is usually cheap). Bass, everybody wants the kid - he's greatness!

Why do we do the trade? This trade shores up our bench. Brevin Knight (one of my favorite PGs) is an assist machine. He's smallish and quick and can be a slight contrast when Kidd goes out. He's not a 3pt threat though. Mobely is a three point shooter and is familiar with Texas as he used to play for the rival Rockets. Tim Thomas is NasTAY with a capital N and would backup Dirk well. He even could spot start if needed.

Bottom line is this would help alleviate the long term effect that Terry's contract has on the team. The trade does make Dallas slightly older but not enough to hamper or slow down the squad. These guys are seasoned veterans, not old fogeys like an Eddie Jones or Juwan Howard. Add Diop and a third center and we have a team!

Kidd/Knight/Barea
Mobely/Green/Foster
Howard/George/Wright
Dirk/Thomas/Pops
Damp/Diop/3rd C

No Thanks. Jason Terry is two year younger, averages more points, assists in less minutes than Mobley.

I hate Tim Thomas and don't want him on the team. I would much rather have Bass.

So basically we are trading way more talent for some salary relief. That does not sound like a very good idea to me.

Don't get me wrong, I am not against trading Stack, JET or even Bass but only for more talent, not less.

I am also against this trade. I would welcome any trade with terry stack and even bass in it as long as a good SG is coming our way. sad thing is that I cant think of one

Wait, if Magette signs in Boston, why not trade for Ray Allen?

I am going to examine every roster to see if there is a SG out there we could actually trade for.

I will be back shortly...

From the Clippers perspective, i would rather have Mobley. They have enough scoring in Davis, Brand, Thornton, and Kaman. They also have a Terry starter kit in Eric Gordon. I don't think Terry would fit anywhere on that team.

New Trade, this one makes more sense...

ESPN Trade Machine Link

Dallas Mavericks

Incoming Players
Michael Redd
Salary: $15,780,000 Years Remaining: 3

Ramon Sessions
Salary: $722,517 Years Remaining: 1

Milwaukee Bucks

Incoming Players
Jerry Stackhouse
Salary: $7,000,000 Years Remaining: 2

Jason Terry
Salary: $9,196,000 Years Remaining: 4

Why does Milwaukee do this? For some reason they like Jason Terry like PGs. They want to cut salary with Stackhouse too. They know they can't re-sign Sessions while they have Redd and Jefferson and others so they might as well get somethng out of him. Switching between Terry and Williams would be seamless and they both could play at the same time.

Why does Dallas do this? They get the top notch scoring SG they've been wanting since Michael Finley roamed the AAC on a near nightly basis. The Big three becomes the big four: Kidd, Redd, Howard, and Dirk. Boston would have to sign Magette just to keep pace. Phoenix, San Antone, and the Fakers better hide and watch. Sessions would give us the truest of true backup PGs, he would be able to take over when Kidd's contract is done. That's a plus.

the bucks arent giving up sessions after he finished the season on a high note last year, they may like "jason terry like pg's" but that doesnt mean they'll try and stack there team with them. and they dont hate redd that much.

and as for the 1st trade it is god awful im not going to put in bass as a throw in just to get rid of a bad contract. especially with what we give back, thomas still has like 3 years left on his deal

Ya know sc, I agree the first trade is pretty much out there. The second one is interesting to say the least.

I am not going to make any more trades today or for a while. They have been just awful and truthfully when I make them based on multiple sources they seem to get better overall results. I am just wasting everyone's time including my own. I am not upset, I promise. I just see these trades for what they are, borderline stupid.

ibtl.

Hell no to the original deal. I don't even think I would do it with Bass taken out just because I hate Tim Thomas so much and Mobley is too old and slow to give up Terry.

And next person who say's Terry's contract is "albatross" is fired!

Wow that Clippers trade is just terrible. Are you just trying to make them that much better this summer? And there is no way Milwaukee does the 2nd trade. Hell, they wouldnt even trade Michael Redd alone for JET and Stack. Can you blame them?

Yeah dfp, I know they sucked. I already apologized. You're about 5 posts and an hour late. But, your typical sarcasm is duly noted. Glad to see you join the party !
