MIAMI -- Rookie forward Michael Beasley did not finish his first practice with the Miami Heat summer league team Wednesday after being struck in the chest by a teammate's elbow.

The Heat said Beasley, the No. 2 overall pick in last week's NBA draft, was being taken for evaluation and had no further details on the extent of the injury.

Beasley and the Heat are scheduled to begin play in the Orlando summer league on Monday.

Riley trying to toughen him up?

Prob unlikely but I could see Riley telling players to get physical with him

alot of those guys in the summer league are fighting to prove themselves as being deserving of pt during the regular season. it's not surprising that something like this would happen at all. You're far too excited though.

Laugh now, cry later.

They said he could still practice, it was only pre cautionary.

Will see whats up when he goes up against Ty Thomas on Monday at the Orlando Summer League.

No. He's not that weak at all.

NBA players are simply that strong.

I thought I was a bad dude in college. Then I went up against Todd Day. That night was, for me, exactly what Michael's 1st NBA practice was, for him:

A. Wakeup. Call.

I'd take him out as well. Matter of fact, I'd be hesitant to play him at all this summer.

We have bad luck with injuries. :(

Wow. I know next year's draft class if full of supposedly great point guards, but isn't the first summer league practice a little early to start pulling your best players and tanking, even for Riley?

People always challenge the big time rookie. It's better that it happen in practice. I still remember Kareem punching Kent Benson in the face during his first game (because Benson was being too physical with him). Benson was never the same and probably one of the biggest first pick busts of all time.
