Maggette to the Spurs?

Post#1 » by Puertorique » Wed Jul 2, 2008 8:18 am

Accordingto Yahoo! Corey Maggette may be close to signing with the Spurs. Maggette was hoping to go to Orlando but it looks like SA sold Maggette to the thought that he could be the player to get them back to the Finals and win.

Perfect fit. Bruce Bowen coming off of the bench would be great for them too.

I'm sure Popovich will love Maggette's mind-numbing ball dominance and ability to get injured and alienate teammates and coaches alike.

What a terrible move. If the Spurs do this they're giving up the division.

Bruce I doubt will be coming off the bench, if there's any decrease of anything it'll be his minutes by a bit (regardless, they'll be managed like in the past with the other top key guys). Besides, Bowen's game is low risk and he conditions himself well.

I think Maggette will start in place of Finley (who will either be gone, or back and with a lesser role than previous years), and Manu has the role like last season coming off the bench.

I can't see Pop not having a significant, consistent defensive guy on the wings, starting.

He opted out because he thought he deserves more?

Anyway, questions about Maggette's attitude will be much gone when he signs that offer sheet with a classy organization like the Spurs.

San Antonio has to make this kind of move to remain among the contenders in the West.

who is going to pay him? clippers have to renounce his rights to pull off the baron move. phili may mark him as a fall back guy, but it looks like josh smith may be their primary target. memphis probably doesnt have a need for maggette, nor are they looking to lock up too much money on a player of maggettes level. the biggest option out there would be golden state. now whether or not they would want to target him with their space is another question. i could see it, but i think they may want to make a run at one of the RFAs out their with a big time offer.

so depending on what happens with phili and golden state, its MLE for maggette or bust.

I think the Spurs coaching staff and veteran players will cover any character issues that were there with Maggette in the past. The wanting to win and quality situation should be enough, anyway. He's never been on a team like the Spurs, also.

That'd be a great signing for the Spurs. I hope it doesn't happen. :)

That would be a great signing by the spurs!

Maggette after a call by the Celtics:
"It's a great honor to even hear from them," Maggette said. "Hopefully, I can look at some of the options. That's a good option playing for those guys."

"It's not always about money," Maggette said. "I've been in the league a long time and I've made a lot of money. I'm tired of losing. I want to get back to the playoffs and win."

It is widely believed he is also strongly considering Orlando's MLE.

San Antonio is the best fit for him. In Boston, he is playing backup which he would not agree too, and would probabaly get under 30 minutes a night. In SA, he is looking for at least 35-40.

Good move if he goes to SA, and it will build his career up. Bowen is too old, and is dragging them down more than he is worth.

Parker
Ginobli
Maggette
Duncan

Going to be tough to beat that.

Don't be surprised to see the Jazz throw their hat into the mix. They have the full MLE to offer as well, and Maggette has said multiple times he would love to play for Jerry Sloan, even signing a contract with the Jazz as a restricted free agent before he signed his last contract.

It sounds like Corey has some real nice options (Boston, SA, Orlando...) If he doesn't mind taking few shots.

I thought that Udoka was their future at the wing position...

Yeah every team will offer him the MLE so he has MANY options. I think he's going to the Spurs or Magic. I doubt he'll be happy with a backup role in Boston and its just scary when the best become better.

since Artest didn't opt out, Maggette is by far the best option that would bring our team back..I''m not getting my hopes up though..this would be huge..

If Maggette was looking for a winning situation that's what he's going to get. Spurs are in position to upgrade and possibly win another title and the Celtics are just coming off of their championship. Orlando is a team moving up the ranks quickly and Maggette would be a great addition to that team.

i would be VERY surprised if the jazz threw the mle at maggette. deron is about to sign for a max, the jazz would be a tax land.
