NBA expansion and new divisions when Seattle gets a new team

Post#1 » by mhd » Thu Jul 3, 2008 12:59 am

Following the crappy news of the Sonics leaving, I think Seattle gets an expansion team in a few years. The NBA should allow an eastern team to move in, and create 4 divisions on each conference.

My guess is:

West: Seattle
KC

East: Memphis (moving from west to east)

NEW DIVISIONS East:
EAST:
1) Knicks
2) Nets
3) Celtics
4) 76ers

South:
1) Heat
2) Magic
3) Hawks
4) Bobcats

Central:
1) Bulls
2) Bucks
3) Cavs
4) Pistons

Mid-Atlantic:
1) Washington
2) Pacers
3) Memphis
4) Raptors

NEW DIVSIONS West:
South:
1) Mavs
2) Rockets
3) Hornets
4) Spurs

West:
1) Lakers
2) Clippers
3) Kings
4) Warriors

North:
1) Portland
2) Seattle
3) Utah
4) Suns

MidWest:
1) KC
2) Minny
3) Oklahoma
4) Denver

whats the point of having 4 divisions in each confrence? does it really matter? Its not like baseball where the top team only makes the playoffs.

Theres two divisions that matter. West and East.

I haven't followed the latest, is Seattle guaranteed a new team or is just a possibility?

On another note OKC, Portland, Utah, Minnesota, Denver makes no damn sense as a division.

KC has a brand new awesome arena. Secondly the NBA does not want to be in Las Vegas. It may be a lot of fans wishes, but not the NBA's.

Mid-atlantic being Toronto, Washington, Memphis, and Indiana makes no sense. Only one of the places is Mid-Atlantic. Two could be argued as "Great Lakes", Memphis and Indy could both be considered Midwest kinda...that's a nightmare.

Step One: Move Denver to the North

Step Two Move Phoenix to the Midwest

It's just a possibility at this point. And considering Stern's attitude toward the City of Seattle right now, I'd say it's not a real likely possibility.

I don't think the NBA is going to expand past 30 teams. Other teams may move but I don't think expansion is what the league needs right now. If any cities are next in line for taking on an already existing team then it would be Las Vegas or Vancouver.

Why would I be bitter about the Superbowl, did something suspect happen? You guys are making assumptions about the wrong guy. I've never been to a Panthers game, in fact, I can't remember the last time I watched a football game for more than 10 minutes. It's too slow for how brutish it is.

edit: But I don't want to hijack this thread. Divisions in the NBA will always be problematic because Utah and Denver need franchises, but where do you align them. Minneapolis is a major market, but I could see the Twolves eventually leaving for Seattle/Vegas/Elsewhere (since it's the newest franchise amongst with the least memorable history of the midwestern teams) Where does New Orleans go?

No more expansion please... If someone wants a team somewhere they will have to pull a "Clay Bennett" or "Michael Heisley."

That is tell everyone before you buy the team that you will try to make it work, don't actually go through with anything, sabotage the team, and then just move the team after you buyout the arena lease.

Of course if Memphis gets moved like some people are suggesting/hoping it'd be an easy realignment

San Antonio
Dallas
Houston
New Orleans
OKC

Seattle
Denver
Utah
Minnesota
Portland

I concur,

Atleast before Kansas City. But I doubt the NBA expands anymore ....or shouldn't

Just send Clippers up to Seattle, but make sure to get rid of Baylor and co. first. No need to have two teams in LA, share people SHARE!
