The Warriors can offer Elton Brand 20 million dollars more than the Clippers can if the Clippers sign Baron Davis. If the Clippers don´t sign Baron they can offer the same deal, but after that they can only offer Baron 45 million while the Warriors can go as high as 100 million.

I don´t see the two playing on the same team though I do see one playing for the Warriors and one for the Clippers.

Yes, with Brand's bird rights, the Clippers can match or offer more than any other team. As long as the Clippers actually had the money to sign Davis after renouncing the rights of Maggette and Livingston, then LA will still have Brand's Bird Rights. The Clippers won't have Brand's bird rights if the Clippers didn't have enough cap space to sign Davis, since they would have to renounce Brand in that case.

Either way, I think Brand's going to take a paycut to play with the Clippers. There really doesn't seem to be much the Warriors can do unless Brand's heart take a 180.

ok so what you're saying is the clippers do not have brand's "bird rights" because they had to renounce his rights and maggette's rights to open up the capspace to sign davis. Then they were going to resign Brand with the remaining space, is this correct?

However, if they already had enough money to sign davis, they only had to renounce maggette and NOT brand, which means they kept his bird rights.

Yup, those are the two scenarios. We've got to wait to see what the cap is set at to know for sure if the Clippers can sign Davis without touching Brand's cap-hold.

Post questions in the thread attached to the link above. The mods there do a great job breaking everything down. They know their stuff. Interesting stuff on what the Clippers can offer vs what GS can offer Brand.

Yeah yeah-- not only is his Achilles acting up, but his mental health...eh, you don't even want to know! He's liable to snap at any minute and go on a killing spree in whatever city he's in. For the sake of the Yay Area-- petition the W's to rescind the offer!

Warriorfan wrote:There is something like a 24 million dollar cap hold for Brand. Your team has to renounce Brand in order to fit Baron. When Brand gets renounced Clippers are signing him as an unrestricted free agent and have no special negotiating rights like bigger yearly increases or an extra year. You have to shed more salary, release a cap hold like your rookies or get a sign and trade with GS where the starting dollars for Baron can be smaller but there are bigger annual increases.

no there isn't

brand's caphold is the max salary for a 9yr veteran, something like 16-17 mil. its yet to be determined because the new salary cap hasn't been announced.

this is the way that the davis/brand signing is going to work assuming a 58-59 mil salary cap:

the clippers are committed to 30-31 mil in salary right now (kaman, thomas, mobley, knight, gordon, thornton)
the clippers have a caphold of 16-17 mil for brand
the clippers have a caphold of 9-10 mil for magz

total: roughly zero capspace

clippers will renounce magz, giving them 9-10 mil in capspace
clippers will sign brand to a new 13-14 mil first yr salary, thus reducing his cap number by 2-3 mil.

the clips now have 11-12 mil to sign baron davis to his first yr salary. brand's rights will never be renounced.

these are all rough estimates since the new salary cap hasn't been announced but you get the idea.

Would he be ready to suit up for the Clippers for 82 games?

I really hope Elton will be back. We did get Baron and I think he's more concerned with winning than money. Even if the Warriors can offer him more.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

GSW may be offering $2-4 mill extra per year, over the table, for however many years. That adds up. Of course things do happen under the table. I think to have ANY cap room-Brand had to be off the books with no Bird right's hold. Maggette + Livingston could not provide that
CENSORED... No comment.

what? if the clippers renounce maggette/livingston they most def. have cap space. Depending on the new salary cap, it would be around 9-10 mil.
