A game between the Jazz and the Olympic-qualified Iranian National Team highlight the schedule for this month's Rocky Mountain Revue summer league, which was released Tuesday.

The Revue will be held July 18-25 at Salt Lake Community College's Lifetime Activities Center.

Eight teams — two more than originally announced — will take part in the 17-game event, though two do not directly represent NBA franchises.

One will be an All-Star team from the NBA Development League. It will play three games, but none against the Jazz.

The other is the Iranian team that qualified for the upcoming Summer Olympics in China by winning last year's FIBA Asia Championship in Japan.

Iran is one of three nations that make up the so-called "Axis of Evil" — the phrase used by President Bush in his 2002 State of the Union address to describe governments he accused of seeking weapons of mass destruction.

Its national team will be playing in its first Olympic men's basketball tourney since 1948.

The Iranians will be in the opposite group of Team USA in Beijing, and they feature 7-foot-5 center Jaber Rouzbahani — who made himself eligible for, but went unselected in, the 2004 NBA Draft.

I like it. It shows a example of sports being played without politics being involved. But I do remember that Jaber is one ugly mofo...

A lot of people hate our prez to the max, but you don't see hate for Team USA...

Or maybe they just know we can't win with a bunch of All Stars no matter how hard we try :D

Sounds to me like the Jazz are amazingly desperate to bring teams into the RMR to keep it form dying.

But honestly I think it's a great idea for the future, start bringing in all sorts of international teams to make it not only a scouting trip, but to lure teams back in

Good for Iran; it's good to see their sports program developing.

Iran's had no serious competition going into their Olympics stint so this is good news for them.

yeah, fits in perfectly for them. Although they have a couple good friendlies scheduled, Slovenia, Croatia, Lithuania, Puerto Rico, New Zealand (before the RMR) and Argentina, Serbia (After the RMR).

Most interesting player is propably Hamed Hadadi, a 7´1 Power Forward/Center that is actually a player. Had an good offer from Partizan in Serbia but turned it down electing to stay at home for now.

If this isn't a big FU to the neocons, then I don't know what is.

Good for Iran. I do think I have some ancestors from the area somewhere in my family tree.
