Is the path paved for a Sundin return?

Post#1 » by kelso » Wed Jul 2, 2008 11:37 pm

So Sundin has told his many suiters that he's not ready to make a decision on a team, let alone whether or not he wants to play. No doubt the likes of Vancouver, Montreal, Detroit and the NYR will at some point take their money and move in another direction.

Sundin could very well be sitting pool side in August when he gets the itch to come back and play and low and behold, there's the leafs $7 mil offer sitting there as Cliff will most certainly tell the press for the next month that the money, the C and his spot are always there for him until he tells us he's not interested ot signs elsewhere.

As the days go by with no signing, I think this is the likeliest scenario to play out.

Stay tuned.

I read that article as well. I totally think he will be back after what has played out in the past few days. Also Howard Berger illuded to the Niewendyk connection, as it would seem having Joe sign with the Leafs front office would probably be viewed as extremely positive for mats, as they are great friends.

There are worse things that could happen to the Leafs then having Mats play out his career with them.

Niewendyk is a big key if he does come back. I personally hope he either comes back or retire because IMO it would be such a waste for him to retire somewhere else. It just doesn't seem worth it.

Btw, a rumour I heard outside of hockeybuzz is that one of the conditions for him to come back is that Blake has to be gone... so we'll see. And again it's just a rumour

According to HockeyBuzz:

Some quotes from various sources who have emailed me this evening.

An Assistant GM:

"They (the Canadiens) finally feel they are going to get him (Mats). They are dying to make an announcement soon."

A Scout:

"People have stopped buying that the Leafs are going hard after Mats. Everyone is startin gto assume it will be the Habs."

A Swedish Player:

"Mats is preparing tonight for something that is coming soon. Many of us wold be shocked if it made it past Monday....and even more shocked if it wasn't Montreal."

A senior NHL person:

"It is all falling into the Habs lap. The Rangers are out of it and Mats does owe it to himself to play another season. To try and bring Stanley back to Montreal for the Centennial."

That Eklund is a steaming pile of shyte. All he does is list all/any possibilities and ususally what happens is something he didn't mention.

When he has nothing to talk about he throws up a "THIS JUST IN" banner and lists a bunch of anonymous sources who say stuff like, "I think Sundin is going to make a decision soon"...WOW- thats prophetic!

The only value on his site is the blogs from the other journalists. Al I give him credit for is taking advantage of the trade deadline a few years ago to launch a site and make some money for himself. Good business accumen, but lousy rumor insight.
