The longer Brand waits, the more nervous I get.

Come on Elton!

I don't know about the nine year part to be honest, but you might want to check out what coon says about it. Take a look at questions #30 and #32.

ok, look at number 30. the second line is what elton brand falls under. he's not coming off a rookie contract and he's making more than the average salary (the mle). it says that he's counting as 150%, which is 24 mil (16 mil x 150%). the problem is you are ignoring the asterisk.

the asterisk next to the 150% says:

Not to exceed the player's maximum salary, based on years of service (see question number 11)

so, we go to question 11 to see what the player's maximum salary is.

question 11 says that for a 9 yr veteran (what elton brand is), his maximum salary 11mil or 30% of the salary cap, which ever is greater. this season's salary cap was 55 mil, next yr its projected to be 58-59 mil. 30% of that is about 16-17mil.

his caphold is roughly 16-17 mil. can't know for sure til the official salary cap is announced. needless to say, his caphold is nowhere near 24 mil.

Strong indications persist that Brand will stay in L.A., largely because he explained his decision to opt out of the final year of his previous contract Monday by saying he was trying to give the Clippers some financial flexibility to strengthen the team around him. But Brand is apparently still considering Golden State's rich proposal.

It was initially expected that Brand might verbally commit to re-signing with the Clippers on Wednesday, one day after Davis told the Clippers he was accepting their five-year offer worth an estimated $65 million to go back home to Los Angeles. Brand instead flew to Washington to consult face-to-face with agent David Falk while Golden State was poised to give him a deal possibly $20 million richer than what the Clippers can offer.

Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com on Wednesday night that the most likely scenario remains Brand re-signing with L.A. and ultimately teaming with Davis no matter what the Warriors present. One source said that Brand, during negotiations on a contract extension in June, specifically told Clippers management that Davis was the player he hoped they'd pursue if he became available in free agency.

Ok, good catch, like I said I wasn't sure about the nine years of service part. We went through a similar situation with Darko, but I can see the difference now though. Good luck in retaining him then, I was curious about it because of my interest in Maggette, but now that we have offered Duhon part of our mle, the situation seems moot. :D
