OT - Oklahoma City's Name and colors
By court decision, the OKC Sonics can't actually be the Sonics or Green and Yellow. If they move the name stays behind just in case Seattle ever gets another kiss of the pig. This leads me to ask what should their new name be and what should the teams colors be.
Personally, I am pulling for the Oklahoma Rustlers with Silver and Red as their colors. Realistically, I doubt they do it given the meaning of the name, so Oklahoma Wranglers is my second choice.
What do you guys think?

Re: OT - Oklahoma City's Name and colors
Oklahoma state symbols... (from wikipedia)
State bird: Scissortail flycatcher
State tree: Eastern Redbud
State mammal: American Bison
State beverage: Milk
State game bird: Wild Turkey
State fish: Sandbass
State floral emblem: Mistletoe
State flower: Oklahoma Rose
State wildflower: Indian Blanket (Gaillardia pulchellum)
State grass: Indiangrass (Sorghastrum nutans)
State fossil: Saurophaganax maximus[191]
State rock: Rose rock
State insect: Honeybee
State soil: Port Silt Loam
State reptile: Collared Lizard
State amphibian: Bullfrog
State meal: fried okra, squash, cornbread, barbecue pork, biscuits, sausage and gravy, grits, corn, strawberries, chicken fried steak, pecan pie, and black-eyed peas.
State folk dance: Square Dance
State percussive instrument: drum
State waltz: Oklahoma Wind
State butterfly: Black Swallowtail
State song: "Oklahoma!"
Personally I would vote for the Bison, Bullfrogs, Flycatchers or Wild Turkeys... although I think an "Oklahoma Milk" jersey would be hard not to buy

Good list. The Wild Turkeys have interesting promotional opportunities. The more I think about it, I believe they may go weather on us and be the Oklahoma Cyclones.

Re: OT - Oklahoma City's Name and colors
I was going full-tilt for Boomers until I saw the State meal was Grits...
How about the Flying Grits? (any chance Al Green spent some time in OK?)
Colors would be white (grits), red (-eye gravy), and copper (since green is off-limits, they need something to reflect the color of money, it's the sole reason they'll be there...)

Red and Silver? Wouldn't that be too much like Houston?

I personally think the team should be called "David Stern's Black Eye" and should be routinely boycotted at all away games.

Yeah I'm afraid they will go weather and the "Okahoma Wind" worries me... sounds a little too much like a WNBA team maybe the Twisters (also kind of fruity)... How did the Bobcats decide?

How about the Oklahoma Deebos b/c they DeeBoed an NBA team from Seattle lol
They'll probably go with a name like Tornados or Twisters like they said above

Everything sounds so damn generic, the orange or black-white stripes is catchey though.

The ownership had to pay a 40 million dollar buyout for this all to happen and will need to pay 35 million if Seattle doesn't have a team by 5 years. Must be nice to be able to throw money around like that!

I think that after Hurricane Katrina no team will go for a weather phenomenon that could potentially kill people for quite some time.

Re: OT - Oklahoma City's Name and colors
My initial thought was black and silver and that seemed too much like San Antonio. It's hard not to be close on colors (like our new colors and New Jersey and Charlotte). I wasn't even thinking about Houston, so I could have duped a team.
I thought Charlotte's name was an ego trip by their owner Bob Johnson, but that might have just been the joke that went around after the name was revealed.
It's hard to come up with a politically-correct, non-violent name that doesn't offend or traumatize anyone. Wranglers might be a possibility, but something Milk related would be a lot more funny.

I hope they go with the black and gold colors, no team in the nba uses that scheme.

I believe the wizards have a black and gold pattern with blue
but i could see an oklahoma team wearing brown and orange like the cleveland browns...They could go with the Outlaws and be called the O's similar to how the oakland A's (athletics) are.

I doubt the NBA allows that or wants to be associated with that name.
