Landry?

He can leave after just one year?

Jonathan Feigen wrote:(He was signed to a one-year contract. They could have signed him to a two-year deal, but reasoned he would be tougher to sign long term after a second season than after a first. -- Jonathan)

I knew there had to be some good reason they did that.

(Was not posted in the Carl Landry thread since it doesn't deal with re-signing him)
Morey 2020.

Q:How are they experts when they're always wrong?

Good to know.

Maybe I'll let others (McGrady2Head?) make the "Fire Morey" thread I wasn't really planning.

That actually does make a great deal of sense. If we would've signed Landry for 2 years, and he performed well this upcoming season, then he'd have been impossible for us to re-sign. Morey is a very very crafty motherf*cker.

This is just my opinion. During the 2007 draft we are short at PF (a big hole). Howard just got traded for James. Hayes is a free agent (even though we knew he's going to re-sign with us). Basically we just need PF, I remembered we all were looking forward to see Morey drafting a PF in the 1st round. Instead we got another PG in Brooks. We were all ***ching Morey for not drafting Big Baby, McRoberts, whatever that 3pts white guy name is, or whoever. Then we learned later that we got Landry in a trade (it's future 2nd and 1M cash for the 31st pick). I like it because I like Landry game. We must be pretty high on him at that time to spent 1M extra instead of just drafting him with our 1st round pick. Later we got Scola falling to us luckily (big surprise). Then Francis and Mutombo re-signed with us. All the sudden we are loaded on our roster (19 players with 17 under guaranteed contract). Mutombo even **tch about only offered with the veteran exception (later okay with it since Les made some donation to Mutombo hospital fund). That for just trying to avoid the luxury tax fine. Then we still got Landry without a contract. I think management don't want him anymore since we got Scola, but can't trade him away. So they offer him the minimum salary to save money. Typically 2nd round get 1 year guaranteed contract with team option on the 2nd year. You offer minimum salary to undrafted player, not for 31st pick, that minimum is not even guaranteed. I don't know what Morey said to Landry to make him sign that 1 year contract (bigger amount of guaranteed contract is definitely not the reason). Maybe telling him we got more money to offer him in 2008 (let's hope he wont pull the Boozer on us).

No longer than Max's post was, there's yet another confirmation of why I have to repeat myself so often.

Did anyone notice that this was the first time in Real GM history that Max did not write a haiku?

Of course, he was asked to summarize.

Henry Abbott of (now)ESPN's True Hoop last yr got a list of 2007 Second Rd picks salaries. At the time 12 had signed-11 got the min of some $427tho,1 Euro got more from Utah.(Evidentally Utah is creative w/second rd picks-it pays more in 1 yr and in return gets longer-but cheaper-contracts.)Only diff between the 11 others was how much and how many yrs were guaranteed. Landry wanted at least 2 yrs,the Rockets didn't want more than one for a player who they prob projected as an end of bench player-and Morey prob didn't want to set a precedent on his first yr of being too generous w/his contracts.

I see what he did there.
