It makes too much sense. The Kings will have to compensate for Artest being a possible rental, and his latest weirdness over his opt out hurts his value a little. If the Kings throw in Douby or a protected 1st the Clippers way, I'd imagine it would be hard not to pull the trigger.

I like Thornton, Thomas we need to get rid of. With all of Artest's "mental abilities" I wouldn't want him to be apart of our team. I'm sure he changes his mind everyday on what he wants to do.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

I don't like this trade, just because Thornton has so much promise and RonRon is...you know, crazy as hell. If yall want Tim Thomas though, I'm sure we can work out a deal for him in exchange for one of those cowbell things.

Artest is an overrated nutjob. I prefer AL in the Red, White & Blue!

Thomas needs to go, but I think dealing Thornton for Artest sets up a 1 year window for things to gel rather than a multiple year window to succeed. No guarantees that he doesn't bolt or meltdown by the end of the year.

I'd love Ron for his defense, because defense wins championships, you know. This trade makes a ton of sense but like I wrote on the trade board, the Clippers would need a major safety net to make a Artest/Thornton swap.

This would be the trade that the clips need to succeed next year. Thorton does have a lot of potential, but getting rid of him may bring both artest and brand. Brand has a very entising offer from the GSW, and in order to make him want to come back, you need one more piece. Artest is that piece, because he is the only one you can afford. Losing thorton is a risk that is willing to take to make the clips a contender next year. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the kings asked for a first round pick in this deal. That will be hated, but some times, that's what it takes.

If Artest really would be the deal clincher then he better not be a 1-and-done Clipper.

Ron is a little vulnerable right now, regretting that he had opted out of his contract. Getting him to sign an extension isn't out of the question assuming the Clippers would be comfortable with that.

The Clippers could possibly acquire Shelden Williams with Ron in a deal to help with the front court depth issue.

Thornton
Thomas
Dickau S&T (1 year minimum non guaranteed)

Artest
Shelden Williams

I bet Shelden would love to be in LA with his honey Candace Parker

^^ Didn't think of that. Good call. Although it doesn't look like there will be many left, Shelden's another Duke player turned Clipper.

Artest's reason for saying that he regretted opting out has to do completely with the fact that Petrie wouldn't give him an extension.

Apparently (source SacBee) Artest didn't opt out, and was hoping for a long term extension with the Kings, and Petrie pretty much said wait till the end of summer then maybe we can work something up.

I'm sure, if the deal was made, a deal between Artest/Sac/LAC would be made regarding his contract status.

But, would that be enticing for you guys?

Artest (extended to the contract of LAC's choosing), possibly Sheldon or Douby
for
TT and Thornton

Clippers win now
Kings rebuild

For the first time, LAC will likely be a better team than LAL lol.
I mean
Davis/Mobley/Artest/Brand/Kaman
Fischer/Kobe/Odom/Gasol/Bynum

Clippers have the upperhand at every position except for SG and bench. But add some vets, and 08-09 is looking pretty good.

I have a feeling that speculation of a Thornton/Artest trade will linger all summer.

This trade will solve your perimeter defender problem. I know you have Ross but Artest isnt an offensive liability and also having two good defenders to throw at guys like Kobe will help out alot.

Plus Elton and Ron are friends from their AAU days in high school in New York. Lamar Odom was also on that AAU team as well IIRC. :D

I don't like gambling on Artest like this, Thornton is a solid talent and on a rookie contract. In 2 years, Thornton could develop into the 3rd star the Clippers need to add to Baron Davis and Brand. Thomas may be OK as a backup for the next 2 years if he plays like he did in 2006/07.

The problem with that is in 2 years Davis will be entering his 12th season, and we all know Davis isn't the most reliable player as far as injuries. Sure he played in 82 games last year but look at the 5 years before that - 63, 54, 46, 67, and 50 games. Anyone who signs Davis for that amount is in a win now mode. We know the Clips had interest in Ron earlier so it wouldn't suprise me to see them have more interest in him now. How much more? I guess we will wait and see.
