Teams can sign draft picks to as little as 80% and as much as 120% of the rookie scale amount (which for Giddens is $797,600). Thus, Giddens can be signed for any amount between $638,080 and $957,120.

It has become accepted practice just to give a rookie the full 120%. My guess, though, is that Danny doesn't want to do this, because of payroll / luxury tax concerns (which is what Bartelstein alluded to).

i believe ainge is just keeping the options open, nothing to get alarmed about
doc already said he feels he can get minutes on this team right away and we didn't make a qualify offer to tony, so i think it is obvious he is in their plans

...this is a non-issue folks...as Hobbs said, there is wiggle room in the actual contract price--300k for Giddens and 600k for the team, (Luxury tax)...my guess is that the main issue here isn't the cost, but the fact that Bartelstein also represents Posey and the nature of that negotiation is effecting this one...Ainge has been selling the company line about budgets and prudent fiscal management, so they are remaining consistent with that stance and it is delaying Giddens signing...

He's not going anywere though...he'll be signed as soon as they deem it time to focus on getting it done...right now, they have bigger fish to fry...
