Like others have said, VC won't be traded. We need him here right now. Plus, this team needs to have the potential to contend when Lebron is a Free Agent in order to lure him over here.

^ This doesnt make sense.
Why do we need him? Besides filling seats I dont see why we need him and even that is questionable. Ratner wasnt worried about filling seats when he let K-mart and Kittles walk. Anyway the loses are going to help with tax purposes.

I won't say the Nets NEED Carter, but you'd be putting some sort of pressure/responsibility on Harris if you got rid of Carter and Jefferson without having some sort of proven scorer on the roster.

Re: Vince Carter Trades
Pretty amusing that some people still don't understand why you need someone like VC on your team even if you're rebuilding.
The two current leaders for the Nets are Devin Harris and Vince Carter. Some people forget that Devin still only has 4 years of NBA experience while VC has 10. Other vets like Swift / Boki / Armstrong / Diop / Hassell / Simmons are either complimentary players or won't be with the team next year. VC is the the guy that has to show this really young group how to be professional and play the right way. Devin will be a big part of this too but you can't expect someone as young as Devin to carry that burden alone. VC will be the voice of that locker room next year and from the reports from beat writers last year he & RJ were doing a good job of that in a very tough environment last year.
You also need someone like him for oncourt performance. Will the Nets be bad next year ? Most likely. That doesn't mean you let the young guys run the show. That's a real quick way to get wrong habits. While VC may not be in the best position for his personal career the Nets can use him to alleviate undue demands on these young kids to perform. Sometimes in the NBA confidence is the difference from a kid being able to grow and become a better player or being lost in this league. VC is unselfish so the development of these young guys won't be hindered by a shoot first/shoot second type of guy, he will follow Frank's game plan and help these guys get better.
Heck even now Thorn has already said one of their needs is to get another veteran because like most people he knows you don't go into a rebuilding mode feeding the fishes to the sharks.
Even if you move VC (which by all accounts looks unlikely now) you need to get back two main things: a person who can score and take the burden off of Devin and the young guys to do so / veteran who can be Frank's right hand man on the court and be a positive presence in the locker room.

Much as it will ruin the Suns capspace in 2010 but id offer Shaq and Barbosa for Carter, Simmons and Brook Lopez.

Birth, I disagree with you.
Who is Portland's leader? Who is NO leader? Who is or will be Memphis's leader? Once you guess who those, how many years have they been in the league. You are trying to create BS reason why we need to keep VC. If we are getting expiring contracts, picks and young talent, VC is NEXT. Harris has to take the role.
Yeah thorn wants to get vets but he isnt going to pay them $15 mill a year to babysit for two years.

Now that they have B. Davis and Brand most likely resigning for less, All they need now is another player to be the Big 3 of the West. VC would fit perfectly.
I would trade Mobley, TIm "Fugasy" Thomas and a Pick for VC or to sweeten the deal, M. Will.
Both come off the cap and if Mobley wants to resign for less I would be for it.

For what exactly do we need more capspace ? We don't get two bigtime FA . We might get one but two ? No way in hell.
If we trade Carter it's for a 6-10 Million Dollar per year halfway decent player that can make an impact down the trade and smaller 2010 expirings.

Portland's defacto leader will be Roy. Their a young team that would do well with some veteran presence but they also have more skilled offensive players then the Nets who imo still need more than Devin to create offensive scoring opportunities.
New Orleans has a phenom named Chris Paul. Love Devin but he's no Chris Paul.
Memphis is a mess.
I don't believe it's BS. Other Nets posters have said similar and I've known it to be a truism said by coaches for decades. Thorn has repeated it also. Veteran leadership is not some fable. Toronto Raptors were at their best with VC having the burden on offense but guys like Antonio Davis and Oakley controlling the team on the court & in the locker room. Obviously talent above all things rules in the NBA so if you can get youth & real talent for VC now it's a no brainer but if you can't and you still want to move VC you have to get a skilled offensive veteran to take the burden off of Harris.
VC won't just be babysitting the Nets. He's still skilled enough to make things easier for the Nets (another thing Portland youth has over the Nets young ones is more offensive talent).
Frankly most VC fans oddly enough are on your side and want VC gone since they don't want to see him in a rebuild situation but I like these Nets players and wouldn't mind one bit seeing VC help them out even if it's to the detriment of his career being here.
Either way works for me but I'm just explaning that veteran leadership isn't something you can dismiss likely like that (whether it's VC or someone else).

If LBJ decides to come here, They WILL COME. We just need to make sure we have enough money to possibly get:
Boozer
Bosh
Wade (I doubt he leaves Miami)
Amare
Joe Johnson
Tracy McGrady
Yao
To name a few

Re: Vince Carter Trades
Here is another option.
If the clippers dont want VC maybe the Warriors would like him. With Mullen offering Brand money, they seem to be in need of a Star.
I doubt this happens but they wont get people to go there now. How about this
VC and M. William for Ellis and fillers.

Carter for Ellis ? GSW would never do that .
If they let Ellis walk Mullin should be shot.

Re: Vince Carter Trades
At this point we really just about HAVE to trade Vince.
Thorn and Kiki made it pretty much clear that they are building a team to make a bang in the 2010 FA class and while I desperately appose it there's nothing we can do about it anymore now that RJ is gone and we have VC,Simmons "worst contract ever" and a whole bunch of talented young players that arent gonna be ready for next year.
It really hurts me to say this but Im afraid its the truth with the way the east is(it always seems to get better with each offseason but than team's like ATL make the playoffs) with Vince here we still a possibility to get a 10th seed which just like last year is the 2nd worst position a team can be in.
If we trade him for expiring contracts we'll end up getting a top 3 pick (in what looks to me like a great draft) and get cap space to sign TWO top tier free agents in 2010 which will at least convince some that this will be an attractive place to sign for.
We're basically giving up on an already lost season and on a superstar that we just wont have any use for so we might as well trade him while he's still playing at a top level.

Re: Vince Carter Trades
Just read that offer by GS for Brand is scaring the Clippers. They may be getting desperate. Need more incentive to sway Brand back to them. They also need more cap room.
VC and KVH for Mobley, Tim Thomas, B. Knight along with Gordon, Thornton or future 1st round pick.

Lets be real here. We're not getting really good offers for Carter right now. So we're holding onto him as long as we don't get something acceptable . It's not like we're desperate for Capspace anymore anyway. And no we're not getting two major FA if we have more Capspace . If we get one i'd be satisfied bigtime.
Szerbiak for Carter is something i would never ever consider. Szerbiak is a huge cancer on a rebuilding team . He still believes he can play and was a huge crybaby in Seattle last season before they traded him for crappier players.
If we trade Carter for Capspace it's a) for good character veterans who don't mind playing on a rebuilding team with alot of youngsters b) guys that get bought out immidiatly because we don't even need them to fill a rosterspot.

And i don't want to here from anybody i don't care about character just contracts matter because thats just plain stupid . There are just alot of guys you don't together with young players .
If the management is positive about Carter's impact on the young players i'd rather keep him then ship him out to land expiring cancers.
