if Brand were smart he'd take the money, even with Diddy he won't be on a championship team.

Take the money, get traded when you can to a contender, or finish out your career bandwagoning championship teams.

dude if the clippers can up the deal,

and sign cassell as a backup off the bench

i can really see them makn a push for a playoff spot just like 05/06 again....

who cares if both are injury prone, as long they are fit when the time matters....that is makn a push for a playoff spot and playing in the playoffs....

It would be hilarious if brand decided to boozer the clippers.

It would be funny as hell if Brand goes to the Warriors and both teams are competing for the #1 pick in the lottery next season.

brand is a class guy. he won't diss baron and the clippers by skipping out on them like that, especially when he was the one who "recruited" davis in the first place.

Agree. He is not going to win a championship with the Clippers. He might as well take the money.

You're assuming the Clippers can't just give him more money by adding another year. And yes, they still have his bird rights. This is all just to get the Clippers to pay more money than they originally intended to.

Take $30 million less to kick it with Baron? I've met Baron and he's a cool dude, but hardly seems worth it. Plus you don't have to sit next to Kaman on long haul flights. I'd be scared of that.

If Brand walks that will be incredible for the Clippers. I would try to swing a S&T of Maggette for Odom and get a year rental, then throw our salary cap cash next year at Carlos Boozer.

Rebuttal: 20 million dollars.

Weird, that was unintentionally funny by Bill Plaschke. Brand go to GSW, its the right decision. :)

What makes you think Odom wants to come play here when he refused and straight up said he would play like crap if we tried to resign him back then? I'm not sure why you don't like Brand so much, but he is a player we need in order to compete. We need additional front court help, and losing Brand will be huge.

How ironic, "Elton Brand you have to stay a man of your word".

Who cares, Baron Davis wasn't a man of his word in Golden State, but that guy is expecting Brand to be a man of his word for the Clippers? Baron kept saying that he would stay in Golden State, that he wants to win a championship as a Warrior; instead, he opts out at the very last minute to get more money from the Clippers. If anything, Baron should have told us he was going to opt out earlier, so the Warriors could have done different moves during the draft and to not let their $10 million trade exception expire.

^That's not Baron's fault, that's the front office's fault....

^^^Chris Mullin wouldn't have kept him past 08-09 anyways, and probably would have even been looking to trade Baron's huge expiring contract; it's not like we wanted Baron here forever anyways. I'm just saying that if Baron let us know instead of flaking out, the Warriors would have done different moves to get ready for FA. He could have told the front office earlier, instead of waiting last minute to opt out with such short notice.

EDIT: Baron told the organization that he would not opt out, and that he wants to win a championship in Golden State. I mean seriously, is it really the front office's fault for believing him? You act like they should have put him through a lie detector test or something to see if he really wanted to stay.

Baron will be the first to admit that he didn't do us any favours but seriously, is Baron Davis a championship calibre player? He's very exciting and provides immediate help but he was never going to win us a title. I'm not sure how else Mullin could have played this. I feel the same way he does and admit that without realising it sooner, Baron out stayed his value in Oakland. We should have gotten value for him 6 months ago.

I'm praying for Josh Smith, Iggy or Maggette to end up a Warrior in our future plans. Josh for the loose defense(and the dunks), Iggy for the ball handling next to Ta(and the dunks) or Maggette for the free throws(and the dunks).

Bird rights don't give you rights to match any offer. For the Clippers to be able to match any offer, Brand would have to be a restricted free agent. Restricted free agents are usually players coming off rookie scale contracts, and Brand isn't. So, in essence: should Brand accept the offer put forward by the Warriors, he's gone no matter what the Clippers do.

I'm not talking about matching an offer sheet. If Brand really wants to stay with the Clippers (which he says he does) and it's a matter of money, he can make a deal with the Clippers and they can offer him more money. The Clippers can offer him a 6 year deal if need be but that hasn't been on the table yet as far as we know. It's not like they can only offer him one deal...take it or leave it. Brand and his agent are likely playing phone tag with Mullin and Baylor, back and forth trying to work out the best deal.

It's as if people think the Clippers can only pay $70mil, the Warriors can pay $90mil...so Brand obviously goes to the Warriors today! Um, no. No offers are final and set in stone until they are signed starting July 9. Clippers can decide to offer more, Clippers can decide Brand isn't worth the money, Brand actually takes a put cut, or Brand bolts to Golden State. These are all still up in the air. There is more negotiating to be done--especially when Brand has already said he wants to stay.

Anyway, I don't see why he would want to go to the Warriors when it's obvious he wanted the Clippers to sign Davis. This is all just a matter of how much money the Clippers are going to pay him.
