Shooting guard Courtney Lee, the Magic's first-round pick, will sign a four-year, $6 million contract as early as today.

Lee's agent, Jason Levien, said that Lee will be in town later today.

Lee is expected to begin practice Wednesday night with the Magic's summer-league team at RDV Sportsplex after undergoing a physical.

Games begin Monday night, with the Miami Heat and Michael Beasley facing the Chicago Bulls and Derrick Rose in a rookie battle royale. The action is not open to the public.

Levien said that Lee, 6-5, would not "be on the floor" until he signs his standard rookie contract. The first two years of Lee's contract are guaranteed.

Also on Wednesday, Courtney Lee, the Magic's first-round draft choice, passed his physical and began practicing with the club's summer-league team. He has yet to sign his rookie contract, but he has a guaranteed tender that kicked in as soon as the Magic drafted him last Thursday. It protects him in case of injury.

Lee's agent, Jason Levien, said Wednesday that Lee and the Magic would come to terms soon.

"We're going to get it done this weekend, within the next several days," he said. He is expected to sign a four-year, $6 million contract.

But I can see what you mean, Lee can come in and produce right away and help out. But don't expect him to grow much more than what we see the first year or two.

I understand what you are saying, but I would counter that playing 4 years at a small school could mean that his ceiling is higher than anyone is anticipating. Look at a guy like Scottie Pippen, who played at a tiny school in a crappy conference, which hid a lot of his potential because there was no true way to gauge his talent against weak opposition.

I'm not saying for a second that Courtney Lee is going to be anything close to Pip, but as much as it is likely he will not improve a great deal beyond what he offers now, there is also the distinct possibility that playing alongside and against the best in the world, night in and night out, could see him flourish. Kevin Martin is a great example that someone has already used.

Never seen the guy play but he certainly is wellspoken and sounds intelligent. Judging from his personality he probably is someone who plays under control and doesn't do anything silly or erratic. I know I will be watching all summer league games.
