Re: The best offensive TEAM you can build
Seems many people don't read the OP of a thread, but just see the title, then post.
Which means... no Wilt, Shaq, Kareem or Hakeem on teams, yet those names continue to pop up.

You need to account for offensive rebounding, passing, clutchness, shooting from different spots on the floor, post-ups, midrange game, 3pt shooting, moving without the ball, offensive chemistry, free throw shooting, ability to get to the line, and style of the offense.
And there is a restriction. You can't use Wilt, Shaq, Hakeem, or Kareem. See, I saved you time.... no shaq or wilt means no hack-a-shaq or hack-a-wilt. lol

Re: The best offensive TEAM you can build
To everyone who said Wilt, shaq, hakeem, or kareem, I hope you know you'll be playing 4 vs. 5, because you can't use those 4 guys. lol
Anyway, my team would be Magic, Reggie, Bird, Dirk, and Moses Malone. That team has great outside and midrange shooting to spread the floor. Dirk, Bird, Reggie, and even Magic is his later years were amazing three point shooters. They were all deadly from midrange. Even Malone could hit from the midrange. Everyone on my team also shoots free throws very, very well. Magic is one of the best ever at getting to the line (with the amount of actual field goals attempts he took.). Malone and Dirk get there often. And Bird and Reggie are crafty.
For clutch, I have Bird, maybe the best ever, and Reggie. Magic, too.
For the offensive glass, I have the best known offensive rebounder ever in Moses. Magic is very underrated in this area. He put up very good offensive rebounding numbers. Bird and Dirk help a bit. And with a defender always running around trying to find Miller, that helps me space the floor, and thus not only allows for driving lanes and and non-doubled post ups, but offensive rebounding opportunites.
Bird and Miller are some of the best players ever at moving without the ball. And imagine Magic getting them the ball.
Passing and cohesiveness are taken care of with Magic and Bird. Miller and Dirk are decent passers, too. Dirk maybe a bit above average. And though Malone is a black hole, he won't have to handle the ball as much or score as much as he had to.
Now, imagine Magic using the pick and roll or pick and pop with Dirk and Bird. Hell, imagine Bird and Dirk using that together. That would be impossible to stop.
Then in the post, I got Moses, a very good post scorer. Magic is always a mismatch, and Bird can score inside effectively, too. Remember, with all my spacing and passing, it'd be very hard to double team anyone or collapse a defense to concentrate on the middle. Dirk can score inside someimtes, too.

I'm not sure why not? Magic and Jordan were better offensive players than any of them.

Well...thats debatable. But I banned those 4 because they are the 4 most unstoppable low post scoring centers ever imo. So I knew people would just pick them. Without them being there, I thought maybe people could construct offensive teams that really had to play like a team, one that could hit on all facets of offense. People need to choose if they want barkley's dominance inside, russell as a hub/offensive rebounder/passer, dirk or bird at the 4 as a shooter, karl malone to draw fould and score, kg to be a great passer and be able to score, etc. I'm actually surprised that nobody has really said D-rob here yet.
But yea, i should have banned mj, magic, and larry, too. lol And then kobe, too, since he'd probably be the next choice if those 3 weren't available. Even i used magic and bird. lol

Re: The best offensive TEAM you can build
John Stockton
Reggie Miller
Charles Barkley
Dirk Nowitzki
Bill Walton
This team can run the break on outlet passes from Walton, can slow it down and play inside-to--outside with shooters, run the pick'n'roll with Stockton, run shooters around screens all day, or pound it into the big man. They are versatile enough to overcome any defense, and they bring enough to the table to get it done with a vartiety of styles. Both forwards can handle, shoot, and pass.

G-Bob Cousy (i don't need a scorer with this team, i need the guy who invented the fast break)
G-Jerry West
F-Lebron James
F-Larry Bird
C-Connie Hawkins (ABA)
And the strategy would be to run.

Re: The best offensive TEAM you can build
Guys I want on the team are:
Bird
McHale (best allowed post scorer)
Moses Malone (another great post scorer)
Dirk
Jordan
Magic
West
Nash
Kobe
Since offensive rebounding is part of the criteria, I definitely want Moses, who may have been the greatest offensive rebounder ever, or McHale, who was one of the better ones himself.
I make it:
PG Magic Johnson
SG Kobe Bryant
SF Michael Jordan
PF Larry Bird
C Kevin McHale
6th man: Jerry West
7th man: Moses Malone
8th-9th: Julius Erving, Dirk Nowitzki
That's a tremendous fast-breaking team, and utterly deadly in the half-court. There also are major rebounders at all five starting positions.

Nash
Kobe
jordon
Bird
Dirk
Try to defend this, with lane totally open for the guards to drive and everyone with 3pt range, everyone a great passer, everyone able to put the ball on the floor.
Good luck.

This may not be the best possible team but it's still pretty damn good:
John Stockton
Reggie Miller
Larry Bird
Kevin Garnett
Geroge Mikan
Great passers at the 1,3, and 4 spots with excellt perimeter shooting to space the floor, and Garnett's 18- foot mid range game compliments mikan's pure low post game really well.

Dirk over KG. That team doesn't need KG's superior passing.
And I'm a Celtics fan.

Re: The best offensive TEAM you can build
If you build a team with five *superior passers* it will surely be greater than the sum of its parts.
Steve Nash or Isiah Thomas or Pete Maravich
Kobe Bryant or Tracy McGrady or Allen Iverson
Lebron James or Larry Bird or Oscar Robertson
Chris Webber or Kevin Garnett or Charles Barkley
Arvydas Sabonis or Tim Duncan or Hakeem Olajuwon
I left out anybody that could (today) is in the argument or GOAT.
I admittedly don't know enough about the old timers to pass up modern day greats for them.
All of these players are/were great scorers and passers, at their positions, in their own right.

I like this one.
If we're not playing defense we don't need big men. And all these players can score 2 on 1 let alone being surrounded by players that can do the same. Almost forces the other team to play man to man defense.
