(Yahoo) Rockets think Posey could be one missing piece

Post#1 » by A.J. » Fri Jul 4, 2008 7:03 pm

James Posey has been to Houston before, and one of the predominant rumors of the day has him pondering the chance to play there again. The Celtics would be happy to re-sign Posey, who was a crucial part of their championship equation, but they don't want to ink him to a long-term deal. Several other teams, including the Rockets, would like to lure him away from Boston and will give him the long-term deal he wants.

Source: Hoopsworld (How reliable are they?)

Lets skip Maggette and go for Posey before he signs with someone else.

nah hoopsworld isnt that reliable..
but i feel posey would be a really good target because he does alot of the little things and is still a pretty capable scorer. I love battier to death..but posey plays lockdown defense also and is more athletic.
If we do get posey, does that make battier expendable? or will we keep him for depth off the bench.
If Posey is a really good defender i feel that makes battier expendable in order for us to get a legitimate scorer maybe

If we did get Posey then I'd like to see us package Luther, BJax, and someone else (not Battier) for a 3rd scorer. However, the problem with that is the fact that we won't be able to obtain a 3rd scorer with a lousy package. I can dream though...

Yao/Dorsey
Scola/Landry/Hayes
Battier/Greene
Mcgrady/Posey
Hinrich/Alston/Brooks

Eh?

Posey can be our backup plan just incase we can't and won't sign Maggette. He would be the perfect compliment to T-Mac and Yao because of his D and shooting ability. I want him to come off the bench for us and let Battier start.

if we get posey then we could definitely trade battier for a 3rd scorer

WOuldnt you think Landry would be a better fit at starting next to Yao. It could be like the Shaq/Haslem front court duo. And also since Mutombo played well in Yao's absence why dont you have him as the backup.

Nah, Scola is best suited starting and he a better fit with Yao than Landry. Ever since Scola took Hayes spot in the rotation we have played better. We need Landry's energy off the bench.

The power forward rotation is the least of our problems.

First off you guys have fell off your rocker if you think we have anything more than a snowflakes chance in hell at obtaining Maggette...
All we have is the MLE, and really we don't have all of that if we are signing Landry. He has already been offered the MLE by more attractive teams.

Secondly Posey would be a great fit for us. Id love to have the guy back, and if he is obtained it is true Battier would be expendable.

Pick up Brent Barry for the LLE
Re Sign Landry 3 year/8 mil... staring @ 2 mil.
Re sign Mutombo for vets min.
Sign Posey 5 year/ 25 million starting @ 3.8 mil (or what ever the remainder of the MLE is)
Trade Battier+Head+Cash
Battier+cash to Portland
Head+Webster+Frye to Chicago
Hinrich to Houston

Hinrich/Alston/Brooks
McGrady/Jackson/Barry
Posey/Green/Harris
Scola/Landry/Dorsey
Yao/Dikembe/Hayes

honestly i really like that lineup..i know hinrich makes a lot more than he produces..especially last year, but he is a POINT GUARD and a legit starting point guard. Our rotation there would be perfect with alston off the bench and hinirch takin the reigns as the starter. He can score when given open shots and an oppurtunity to penetrate too so he would fit perfectly.
However, if we have to give them battier..i would expect something else back too.
I'd love to keep battier, but i mean if we have the chance to snatch a better scorer then why not?
Posey does what he does and is more athletic, but i cant even imagine how a team would go against a line up with both posey and battier in at the same time!!!!
wowww
but i mean im sure orlando would want battier? snatch someone like turkoglu or a pure scorer maybe?

i really like the idea of posey, he is a great defender and an excellent shooter. He is also more athletic than Battier so I would bring him in as the starter. Battiers stock is pretty high right now as he had a very good year last year so a lot of teams that need a defender would be interested in him like Orlando for example. You could use Battier, Head, Jackson and even Brooks or picks to get a 3rd scorer then?

As for Hinrich he could be got as a bit of a bargain as he had a bit of a crappy year last year which would hopefully turn around. Heo does create shots for teammates and is a pure point guard which would be great. he is also a very good free throw shooter which the Rockets seem to lack which is another plus, we would have to assume that he was just in a bit of a funk last year which would be the only risk (the fact he might not get out of it)

But hey what do I know its only my second post :D :D

Then use Hoopsworld, are you out of your mind? Posey the missing piece? obviously that site knows nothing lol. I'm sure his 8 pts and 5 reb would help out A LOT for a team looking for their third scorer.

Posey would be an excellent backup to T-Mac.

BTW, ShaqSux, gifting Battier to Portland would be a horrible mistake. That team is already going to be loaded. Why do you want to help them? Unless, you're a Blazer fan, it doesn't make sense.

AJ, you SHOULD know better. Remember this thread?

And also he made another profile to bash anothor mod, and he blamed it on me.
