Saw Iverson at work today

Post#1 » by jtmoney » Sat Jul 5, 2008 1:32 am

I work at the Atlantic Station theatre. Iverson came in today with his entourage...one of the other managers tried to get him to donate money to some charity drive we are currently doing. But he would have none of it. I don't blame him though...I guess. He's not as big as I thought he'd be...earlier in winter Boozer came in...now that guy is huge in person. Pointless thread I know, but thought I'd share.

You should never have expected anything from Iverson. How can you expect a guy who parks in handicap spaces all of the time to actually donate to charity?

I actually defend his unwillingness to donate. I don't donate when asked at stores or cold called on the phone, I contribute to charities on my terms where I can establish the legitimacy and efficiency of the charity. I'm not saying that's the case with him, just that I understand. Being a rich celeb he probably gets hit up a lot and it would get old quick.

Can't comment on the handicap spaces because I've never actually seen his SUV in one. I don't do it though, the convenience isn't worth the ticket risk and if it happened to be the rare instance that a handicapped driver needed the spot I would feel bad that I did it.

I think it's pretty weak that the managers even tried to get him to donate. Let people enjoy themselves after paying outrageous prices to see a movie already.

Iverson actually helps the Boys & Girls club, has held Softball charity events, helps inner city kids and gives his time to other celebrity events. I'm sure he gives his money to other causes as well.

Yeah, he did some charity work here in Philly but he was kind of a private person. Right before we traded him there was a teenager shot and killed in Philly because he wouldn't give his Iverson jersey over to the guy robbing him. When Iverson heard about it he paid for the kids funeral expenses.

I agree. Working in an office in Atlantic Station you would think they would want to promote celebrities being left alone to step up the consumer base. And that movie theater is one of the worst I've been to.
