He's 3 inches taller at 6'9, much heavier/stronger, is a better shotblocker, and a better finisher around the rim. Did we just find our back up C? I know he's only 6'9, but the way the league is looking nowadays he might work out as our back up C.

I dont see why people think he can't play C. This dude is wicked strong and can overpower players with his strength.

At least thats what I heard.

He played in C-USA for 4 years which is light years away from NBA competition.
I like his athleticism but 6'7" centers rarely succeed.

Holdem, please read more before just concluding things. His standing reach is 8'11". He has ridiculously long arms and are strong like mighty tree.

Unrelated side note: I wish Bo Outlaw was still playing.

What exactly did I conclude?
fact: he's 6'7"
fact: he played in C-USA, a weaker conference.
fact: very few 6'7" centers have suceeded in the NBA

I don't mind the Rockets picking him up but I think he'd be better off playing PF behind Scola and Landry

I mean.. well.. you're right. I'm tired. BUT STILL most 6'7" guys can't reach that high. Hayes hits 8'8", ~the average NBA reach. Most 9' and up reach guys suck too, for whatever reason. How many of them from 2005 have made any noise? 3? And only 6 are still around? 4 from 2004? Eh, I dunno. "2nd round draft pick" might have been better accepted, but my bad for misconstruing what you said. Just noticed Millsap (plays F/C) is the same height but at draft weighed less, couldn't reach as high, and wasn't as strong (on bench press at least) while I was looking for those 9' reach stats.

'Course ain't none of that gonna matter if boy can't play (duh), but I trust the wizard.

C-USA being a weaker conference is, in my opinion, not a valid argument. Yeah the C-USA is a weaker conference, but Dorsey (and Memphis for that matter) proved that they can play with any team from any conference in the NCAA. Hell, they were a 2 minute-meltdown away from hoisting the championship trophy. Trust me, I watched Memphis toy with my Longhorns.

So Dorsey is 6'7, 6'8 with shoes, what's the problem? His arms are very long, he's extremely strong, and he's very athletic. He's a proven shotblocker and rebounder- that's what matters to me. I think he'll be for us this coming year on defense what Landry was for us this past year on offense. Dorsey's addition also gives us some options defensively against teams like Utah, where we can now throw out any combination of Landry, Scola, Hayes, and Dorsey to defend Okur and Boozer. No one is expecting insane production from Dorsey; people just expect that he'll excel at what he's proven he's good at. If his shotblocking, finishing, and rebounding translate onto the NBA court then I think we got ourselves one hell of a pick.

Yeah I saw that UT game as well
Re: the championship game, Darrell Arthur had a great game while Dorsey had a very poor one.

Anyway, I'm pulling for Joey now that's he a Rocket but I'm still skeptical of him playing center against Duncan, Gasol, Oden (who destroyed Dorsey in the Elite Eight in 2007). I want him to take Chuck Hayes' roster spot and minutes but I still think we need a true back up C.

you might want to tell Michigan State, Texas and UCLA about how much C-USA sucked....

i mean, michigan state is known for their big guys and their tough rebounding....and tulsa, uab, and utep played us closer than them.....

in fact, tulsa's coach is really close with tom izzo and he was quoted afterwards as saying he greatly enjoyed watching the Tigers destroy Izzo (50 to 20 at halftime, with Dorsey being the best player of the 1st half) and acknowledged his Tulsa team played the Tigers much better than the Big 10 powerhouse did....I think his final quote was "now they know what we have to deal with"

BTW, tulsa, a crappy C-USA team won the NIT.....
