Should we keep or trade him
What teams need Miller
What could we get in return

If the price is right, I would trade him

I think one team that can offer us a good trade is Cleveland. They can offer draft picks (including Chicago's 2009 second round pick) and expiring contracts. Cleveland is probably desperate because they won't be able to beat Boston in a 7 game series, Zydrunas Ilgauskas is already 33, Mike Miller would be the perfect complement to James, and they need to show James they are doing everything they can to win a championship. I think we can get a lot in return.

Keep him for this year at least, unless someone absolutley floors us with an offer around the deadline. Next off season, see what our draft pick situation is (If we keep the pick traded to the clips, where the miami pick is at, ect.) and try to either move into the lottery or obtain a second lottery pick and get Thabeet.

Definitely trade him.

He' was a weird piece to add to such a young team. As the losing goes on, I don't see him as a patience veteran that will enjoy being a teacher to the youth and inexperience of this team.

Maybe we could package him to Memphis w/ Kevin Love, McHale, Hoiberg, etc. for 2 second rounders and cash considerations.

He is excited to play here. He WANTS to play here. A skilled player that truly wants to play for the Wolves is rare, and we should hold onto players like that.

I agree that we keep him for a year, and see if he remains excited by our potential, or gets worn down by close losses.

Kevin McHale said in the past that while he loves the future for the Wolves, last year's team was a little too young, and needed a more veteran presence. Mike Miller could be that guy. I agree with people that are happy to have a guy that wants to be here. He's a vet, but his age is just right, and his flexibility will be useful as some of our prospects grow, and others decline.

After the season (or maybe right at the trade deadline), we see if he still wants to be a leader on this team, and is still happy if he is here. If not, he will have a ton of trade value, because of his skill and a contract that expires before the summer of 2010. My guess is that he will flourish here, and talks of trading him will be dismissed as typical Timberwolves doom and gloom. I questioned Miller's fit at first, before I knew of his local connections, but I expect that he will become an important part of the team's history, and will be here several years.

i want to keep him but i get the feeling that we may win 40 games which means we will lose our pick and still not make the playoffs

losing both will hurt bad and we need as many assests as we can get for the future so we can take that next step

I agree that Miller probably wouldnt come for that cheap but one can hope right? :pray:

I am confident that our GM Daryl Morey will pursue the veteran foward. He would be a perfect off the bench for Houston.

That is the thing though...Miller would be the perfect fit for a lot of teams so why not just keep him. You don't just give up on 40% career 3pt shooters. He has better passing ability than Jaric and rebounds. The kid can play and should stay. The cool part about him is that even when he loses a step or two (around 31 or 32), he still has a skill set that will be very effective off the bench.

plus he is essentially now playing in his hometown...I doubt he goes anywhere.

From the trade board, Miller seems perfect for a lot of teams, but they only seem willing to give crap for him. For instance, from Houston, it would take something built around Scola. Maybe Battier to a third team could get it done, but I doubt it.

I hate to put a wet blanket on the acquisition of Miller, but other than him wanting to be here (whoopee!) … I just don’t think he is going to help this franchise as much as some do.

I don’t want to oversimplify, but last year, he was the starting veteran on a young Memphis team. They were a disaster (w/ Gasol and w/out him). I don’t see our talent level being any better than Memphis’.

Believe me, I want this trade to work, but if history is an indication of the future…. we’re in for a long season. Let’s trade him NOW while his value appears to at his somewhat high.

You don't see the Wolves being any more talented than Memphis, sans Gasol? Let me introduce you to this guy on the Wolves. His name is Al.

Memphis was tanking hard core after the Gasol trade, anyway. I'm not fan of this trade, either, but I think Miller will have a bigger impact than you seem to think.

I agree, and I was pretty stunned. The guy is an alternate for the US Olympic team, and he might end up playing in China! He shot over 50% FG last season, including 43.2% 3P! I was amused to see a CLE fan and a POR fan fighting over whether each other's pile of garbage smelled worse.

From CLE? I don't see anything getting it done. None of their youth - AV, Hickson, West, Gibson - is particularly attractive to Minnesota. Z might be right value wise, but at 33 he's far outside the Wolves target age range. Sending him to a third team might get it done.

What would the Wolves be looking for in a MM trade? Youth of higher quality than what CLE has to offer.

A trade with any team. What is the absolute minimum you would be willing to trade Mike Miller for?

I mentioned Cleveland earlier just because I think they need a guy like Miller. But I think West is pretty good on defense and would be a good backup for Foye. Cleveland has all of their first round picks, all their second round picks, and the rights to Chicago's 2009 second round pick. Make a trade for West and Szczerbiak (exp) with draft picks and we got the whitest team in the NBA.
