Red, White, and Blue? Not many of those around.

Interesting link about team color histories

Not to be too sexist, but I think they'll hold that one for the WNBA team. How about the Oklahoma City Huggy Bears for the NBA franchise? Their warmups could be long fur coats and pimp hats.

Oklahoma City Rednecks? Oklahoma City Clay Bennett is a Festering Pile of Dog ****? Oklahoma City Trajedy? Oklahoma City David Stern is a Snake? Oklahoma City No Free Agent Will Ever Sign Here? Oklahoma City Inevitable Relocation within 6 or 7 Years?

I'm good with all of those.

Oklahoma -> Dust Bowl -> Great Depression -> The Grapes of Wrath -> the Oklahoma Wraths

........ Brown and Black might work, Red and Black, or Gold and Black.... i think something similar to the Steelers or Browns jersey but in basketball form.

The thunder would join the magic and jazz as the worst team names in the league... i prefer team names that specify individual units instead of broad conceptually based names (just pick a favorite animal and add an 's'). This is the NBA, not the WNBA, MLS or Arena Football League.

its actually too bad they can't keep the Sonics as their name...

"In 1953, the prototype of the first SONIC Drive-In opened in Shawnee, Okla. Now, more than 50 years and 3,000 drive-ins later, SONIC enjoys the highest customer frequency rate in the quick-service restaurant industry. SONIC Corp. is an Oklahoma City-based, publicly held company that owns, operates and franchises SONIC Drive-Ins"

They could just change their colors to light blue yellow and red like the restaurant and employ a giant Tater Tot as their mascot

Since they're forced to use the "City" (not just Oklahoma) they could use something that follows "City" well... Oklahoma City Slickers? :)

Or if they just wanted to have some fun with the Okie angle they could go with "Dokies"... I think that's a neutered quail or something...

If they don't go with Boomers, my money is on those gawd-awful non-plural names, and it'll be either "Energy" or "Power" since they think they've cornered the market on the Energy industry over there, and a couple of the ownership group members are CEOs of Something-or-Other Energy. O.C. Power sounds better, but it would be confusing to refer to, say, Durant, as a Power forward, so by default I figure they'll go with Energy. Crimson and orange, like the Hokies.

I dont think so.

I was thinking in the vein of the Miami Heat...when you think of Miami...you think hot or heat. Well, the same applies here. Oklahoma is the windiest state in the nation...and when you think of wind, you think speed. A lot the names mentioned sound good...but the league wont allow names like Barons, Cowboys, Thunder Cats, etc.

I like Cyclones idea a lot...just an opinion though.

I mean you have singular named teams like the Magic, Jazz, Heat....so Wind isn't that far-fetched.

Wind is kind of neutral, but opens the team up to a lot of fart jokes.

Breeze would be kind of gay.
