I'm not sure I would trade a future 1st(no matter how much protection was on the pick) for two role players. Wilkens looks like a beast when he plays vs the Hawks but he is really isn't an upgrade over players you could likely get for the minimum like Jarvis Hayes and Juan Dixon. I'm also not sure Petro is going to be any better than Zaza next season.

I'm a Texas fan, and therefore a Kevin Durant fan. So, I watched a lot of the Sonics on NBA league pass this season. And I have to say that I am whole heartedly against the idea of acquiring Wilkins. He's a great athlete, but is a very inefficient scorer and not a great shooter. His game against us, was not the norm. In fact, even in Seattle he was out of the rotation for a good portion of the season, and for good cause. Nor was I blown away by Petro, but he is definitely serviceable.

I think Juan Dixon could be a solid rotational player for us. He is small but he can get his own shot off, and has a sweet stroke.
On the other hand, I don't see the point in re signing Mario West or Richardson. We need to find a deeper rotation, and if Woodson didn't like them in the rotation last year what has changed. It is time to try some other options in my humble opinion.

What's changed is that there's new management. If Rick Sund pressures Woodson, then Woodson may listen. Also, Richardson spent a LOT of time in the D-League in between his two stints with the Hawks. He got more PT this 2nd time. West, OTOH even started a game or two, and spent some time in the rotation. He actually does things (like play good D) that Woodson likes. You could do much worse filling out the 15-man rotation. I think a Chill S&T could be in the works that gets us a shooter, but we'll see.

I'm interested to see if West can develop a jump shot to go with his tremendous defensive effort. If he does that he could be just as effective off the bench as a James Posey or Ime Udoku. Jeremy Richardson could be our version of James Jones if he strengthens a bit so as not to be too horrible on D and still can keep the shooting percentage up. I'm not for throwing them out, but I am for them proving they deserve to stick on the roster. If we had the money to spend upgrading the bench I would, but we don't. We have to have some minimum salary guys develop. A lot of the free agents being thrown around want more than the minimum and that's the problem.

One thing important IMO, there's a possibility that Richardson was not so much use because of Woody not having ability to get him with open shoot.
If that part of the problem, signing James Jones or this kind of shooters won't help more, because I don't see him bringing so much more than what Richardson can give.
The only reason I see to get him would be to be sure to have systems using Jones in addition to another shooter, let's say Richardson to create threat from 3 pts and get space on the floor, exactly like POR when they killed us in regular season with both Jones and Outlaw on the wing while Roy and Aldridge (or Frye) was starting the system. They had different possibilities to end it depending on how the defense react.
If you don't want or can't create things like this, no reason to add a shooter.
In this situation, a bigger problem could be our starting SF not shooting 3's.

One thing to help this is that I expect (hope) Al Horford to be more of a low post offensive threat this year. Al and Josh making the defense adjust and a SF stretching the D like Bibby and Joe should give us greater offensive efficiency.

Pietrus to Orlando
James Jones to Miami
Brent Barry to Houston
Roger Mason to Spurs
Jarvis Hayes might be going to the Nets
All of them signed or will sign for significantly less than the mid level exception.

Is Ricky Davis available and would he be a reasonable acquisition? Granted Ricky Bucket's not talented enough to, say, manufacture his own triple-doubles anymore (lol) but his shooting is still OK and as a reserve he wouldn't be a total liability on D. Hopefully his agents aren't demanding full MLE.

Ricky doesn't fit with winning or team chemistry, but he would provide scoring off the bench. I just don't think he'll ever be a guy you really want on a team.
