they are desperate for a bench. they only have 10 players under contract, thats not a team right there. if they want to win they need to surround their current core with role players. (and no maggette =))

Free agent forward James Posey is still considering numerous offers, according to The Boston Herald.

His agent, Mark Bartelstein, has continued to speak with a number of suitors after receiving an 'unacceptable' offer from the Celtics.

The rumored offer is worth less than the $5.8 million mid-level exception and his desire for a four-to-five year deal.

Definitely going to be interesting to see what goes on now

If we are able to get Maggette, I think there is definately a role here still for Barry. Barry has not been a problem. I would say, when healthy, he's been 10x more consistent than Finley the last two years. That's what you need from a hired bomber off the bench, consistently a threat.

So, if we are lucky to get Maggette, I think he gets Finley's role and is asked to produce more than 10 points a night, which he should be able to do. I think Manu comes off the bench still and MAggette starts at SG. When Manu comes in, MAggette can slide to the 3 while Bowen gets some rest after starting for his defense, save him for late game defense if needed. If not needed, save him for the playoffs. In that case, Barry still comes off the bench for some spot shooting, etc. We can reduce his minutes too and keep him fresh for the payoffs.

I think Barry has been so clutch in the playoffs and so overlooked the last couple of years because Pop has been starting Finley when possible. But the truth is, previous year, Barry had surpassed Fin by ASBreak and gotten the starting job during our key run down the stretch. An injury at the end of the season gave Fin a starting job back he never should have IMO. Again this year, Barry was way better to start the year. Then the injury bug came and bit him again.

Keep Barry's minutes low and he can be a more dynamic version of a Steve Kerr for us, or our new "big shot" guy off the bench.

I completely agree with that. Back in the '05 playoffs, he hit some big shots, especially in the Phoenix series. Same thing last year in the finals. The fact that he can play both guard spots i think is important incase hill isnt ready. I think he has been a key contributer when healthy and unfortunately he hasnt been in recent years.

Barry definitely gives the Spurs a lot. He's been the best shooter and ballhandler on the team ever since he got there. I've got some serious doubts though about whether he comes back though. One wouldn't think he opted out of a league min deal with the Spurs in order to simply come back for another league min deal. He's got to be looking for the BAE at least, and I'm not sure the Spurs are willing to pay that. Especially if the Spurs are fortunate enough to land Maggette.

BTW, I'm obviously new to the board here. Big Spurs fan. Been lurking for quite some time.

Barry has performed unbelievably well in the playoffs. He is the classic role player who doesn't hurt the team. I will never forget his play in the 05 playoffs when he played the point when Beno was sucking ass. He had an ungodly shooting streak early in the season before he got hurt and is a great spot starter when needed. I would love for him to come back to us.

Pietrus to Magic very soon...

Sources have confirmed to RealGM's Jarrod Rudolph that the Orlando Magic will sign free agent wing Mickael Pietrus to a contract on Wednesday.

Terms of the deal are not yet known and we will be delivering updates as we learn more.

http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wireta ... n_pietrus/

I think that'll be a nice addition for Orlando, as Pietrus relates to the kind of player they need on the wings next to Rashard (at least he should be at SF), and as well as on the perimeter in general. He has good overall size for a wing-man, can shoot the three, has above-average defensive ability (needs some adjustment, but can be done), and can rebound.

I think he'll become a better player with Orlando, in having a consistent role, and being more disciplined on both ends of the court.

Obviously takes them out of the Maggette situation.

Also, Yahoo! Sports posted that the Sixers move of contracts to Minnesota and getting their trade exception was to create more money to throw at Elton Brandt and that he's now leaning towards going there.

These are two interesting moves and developments that could impact the Maggette decision.

McHale got a 1st rounder for a salary dump. Impressive.
