If Brand signed with LAC; Whats next?

Post#1 » by Hoops23 » Mon Jul 7, 2008 1:20 pm

Baron will sign with the Clippers soon.
Looks like Maggette wants to play for a playoff team, and the other big name free agents are restricted.
What if Brand comes back with the Clipps, whats next for GS???

My best guess is the persuit of atleast one restricted free agent.

We can also trade for a player without taking back equal salaries. For example, if Cleveland wanted to trade us Wally Sz. (13M) and a first round pick, we could trade them Al Harrington ($9M).

Thats just an example, not necessarily a trade we would want to do :)

Nothing is next..Warriors arent interested in Josh Smith or at giving MaFrickengette much more than the MLE...I love it...Great summer..Warriors doing everything right...

I'm hoping we go after Najera-Dooling-Barry to support the puppy core.

To all you guys not fired up about watching Wright-Randolph-Biedrins-Monta develop? Go be a clippers fan for crying out loud.

News Roundup
Sporting News' Sean Deveney wrote:In need of a point guard, the Golden State Warriors are expected to see what they can get in a trade for PF Al Harrington.
...
One who has been drawing a lot of interest: PF Eduardo Najera, who helped his stock by extending his shooting range to the 3-point line. Some old friends -- the Dallas Mavericks, and his old Mavericks coach, the Warriors' Don Nelson -- are interested in Najera, along with the Nets, New Orleans Hornets and his current team, the Denver Nuggets.

ESPN's Marc Stein wrote:Maggette knows his career with the Clippers is over unless Brand stuns the league and goes to Golden State. The high-scoring swingman has no shortage of suitors offering him a multi-year deal starting at the midlevel exception, which is expected to approach $6 million for next season, but Maggette hasn't abandoned hope that a team with salary-cap space (Philadelphia or Golden State) will come after him.
...
There's a strong sense that the Warriors would prefer to chase restricted free agents Josh Smith (Atlanta) and Luol Deng (Chicago) with the money they threw at Brand, although Maggette's status as an unrestricted free agent -- who thus doesn't have to sign an offer sheet that could tie up a team's money for seven days -- makes him easier to pursue.
...
It is widely presumed that Chicago will soon trade guard Kirk Hinrich now that the Bulls have drafted Derrick Rose with the No. 1 overall pick, with Golden State likewise assumed to be atop the list of Hinrich suitors given the void created in the Warriors' backcourt by Davis' departure.

SF Chronicle's Janny Hu wrote:If nothing happens between Elton Brand and the Warriors, which is still the likeliest scenario, don't expect Golden State to turn around and hand out another huge offer to an outside free agent. As one team source told me, the plan is to "take our time" sorting through the rest of the market.
Josh Smith? Sources inside and outside the organization say he's not on the Warriors' radar.
Corey Maggette? The Warriors like him, but not at much more than the mid-level exception.
Andre Iguodala? Even if the Warriors went after him, (which I'm not sure they will), his restricted status is a big hurdle.
...
I'm just not getting the sense that the Warriors are keen on giving serious chase and having their money tied up for the seven days that teams have to match offers.
...
My best guess is that the contract situations of Ellis and Biedrins will be resolved before the Warriors make any big splashes.

Re: Jenny Hu (or is it Janny?)....correct me if I am wrong, but if the Warriors sign Biedrins and Monta then we won't be able to make a "big splash." All of our cap money will be tied up and our "big splash" window will be closed. No...?

I don't think so Nick. See Warfan's post where he detailed some realistic scenerios. I do think that part of the reason the Ws haven't moved very swiftly in Monta and Beans resignings (although intending to do so) is because if they wait to do it after they make their FA signings, they can still sign them and get in under lax tax.

I think you guys are saying the same thing. We have to make the "big splash" first, then sign Ellis & Biedrins after. As for Hu, who knows what she's trying to say.

The W's will shop Harrington for a player with a shorter contract and possibly acquire a PG via sign and trade deal.

Since Duhon is off the market, Hinrich is the most likely PG candidate to be moved despite contrary to the reports.

Possible Deal #1)

If I'm the W's I'd deal Harrington for Charlie Villanueva and Desmond Mason. Both players have expiring contracts and would give the team more depth off the bench and versatility. I'd be willing to throw draft rights to Kosta Perovic or Mladen Sekularic.

Getting CV and Mason are perfect fits for the W's uptempo style even though they are with the team for just one season.

Possible deal #2)
Another deal could be sending Harrington and future unprotected top 10 1st round pick to the Bobcats for Felton and Adam Morrison.

We get a PG that has been compared to Baron and shooter in Adam Morrison. However in order to get the Bobcats to be interested in that deal we might have to include Brandan Wright instead of the future 1st round pick. It's definitely a risky deal for the W's becuz of Morrison's health/injury history but W's need a PG. So the question then becomes do we really like Felton as our PG.

No we don't like Felton as our PG. Especially if we're giving up Wright.

I don't think the Bucks would do CV+Mason for Harrington and I don't think it's a very good deal for us anyways. BTW, we no longer have the "draft rights" to Kosta Perovic because he's on the team and Mladen Sekularic is never coming (and sucks).

Robster...your second deal is sheer lunacy.

The Bobcats opinion of Felton is pretty clear now after they drafted Augustin. Felton can be had for cheap, not for Al and a first round pick (and definitely not Brandan Wright OMGZ!!). I would be willing to deal Harrington for Felton and Morrison straight up. If the demand anything more then I'd be willing to give them CJ Miles.

BTW, Adam Morrison is trade filler at this point.

I think it's pretty obvious that no one outside the Warriors front office knows what they're planning and all these reporters are just guessing. As per usual.

It's really starting to look like we're gonna end up with nothing out of this whole affair. I'm glad Baron is gone, but I was hoping they would be able to add something of value with this new found cap space that will be gone as soon as we lock up Andris and Monta.

If Felton can be acquired easily, then I'd want the W's to get him as BD's replacement. And for the record, I'm just putting these deals out there.

Okay so here's another deal that could work out for both teams imo...We deal Harrington and C.J. Watson for Felton and Nazr Mohammed.(Biedrin's backup)

WarFan, that deal is a very good deal for the W's because it does two things. It gives us more financial flexibility and both players are in the last year of their contracts. Expiring contracts could very attractive to teams looking to get expiring contracts.

Honestly I could see the W's Front office dealing Brandan Wright if they like what they see in Randolph in the summer league. If and that's a big IF we could get Harrington for Felton and Morrison, then that's a deal too good to pass up imo. Warriors should jump all over that.

trading big for small is never a good move, unless youre getting a megastar.

Mullin should have used the TPE for Hinrich if thats the scenario. Hinrich is a respectable guard, but his price tag is really high.

Earl Watson doesnt want to play ball in the city of Oklahoma City.
Lets Go Baron Davis...i dont care what jersey you put on. Lets go.
Big Smooth is focused and ready to handle the centers of the league.
Curry and Ellis will be a top 5 back court this season. 6/25/2010

Randolph is not a true PF. Mully already said he will be playing backup SF most... and some PF in certain Nellie Midget ball.

Felton and Morrison are lost projects, no way BW is included in any trades unless JRich comes back. Then Chalotte will need to pay up to swallow his big contract (bigger than we traded him away).
