S & T for Josh Smith?

Post#1 » by -Phenom- » Tue Jul 8, 2008 4:05 am

He is one of my favorite players and I would really like to see him come to the Mavs. I think Smith would thrive playing with Jason Kidd and he complements Dirk real well. He is very young and that what makes him so valuable.

It looks like the Hawks are actually gonna lose him for nothing. So why not get him for some of the Dallas Maverick pieces.

Im thinking something around

Howard
Stack or Jones

for

Smith

I feel something around those lines may get us Smith but I wouldn't wanna give up to much. I didnt try to make salaries match tho.

One can only hope.

Josh Smith >>>> anything on the Mavs outside of Dirk.

There is no way we can do a trade very easily because Smith will become BYC on the new contract. The package has to be bigger or a 3-way. I think it might be more prudent to look at Childress and another contract so that ATL can have some room to manage Smith's new salary.
10:20 (pm, 6/29/06) The Mavs take Maurice Ager at No. 28... Ager walks up to the stage in a triple-breasted, oversized beige suit, goes to shake hands with Stern and immediately gets whistled for a foul on Dwyane Wade.

I figured they would laugh at us. But what if Smith will sign wit the Sixers, the Hawks will lose him and get nothing in return. Why not trade him if you dont want to pay him.

Why would they loose him for nothing? He's a RFA which means the Hawks can simply match the offer-sheet to which the Sixers will sign him. And I'm pretty sure the Hawks will match any offer-sheet...

Rick Sund the Hawks GM has said numerous times that any offer will be matched. It's the writers that claim their source (ha) says the ownership won't match any offer and continue to say the ASG is cheap.

yes, it's summer and the writers need something to write about. if they were serious, they wouldnt talk about such a BS. no way atlanta lets josh smith go.
differentstory with childress though. I could see him go elsewhere

This is a good topic, and could happen. What was not mentioned is that numerous GM's around the league are thinking that the price for Josh Smith will be to much for the ownership to take on. That franchise might sell, and will not want all that guaranteed money might make it more difficult to sell the franchise. Brandon Bass would have to be in the trade for the Hawks to consider it. Maybe Bass and Jet? Atlanta loves Jet.

atlanta loves jet?
well, I dont think a guaranteed money investment in josh smith is something a potential buyer sees as a negative. joe johnson, josh smith and al horford are the cornerstone of the franchise and atlanta will keep all 3 of em

I'm waiting to see how everything plays out. I really feel like he is going to leave the Hawks, and I would hope we jump on the opportunity.

Atlanta traded JET to the Mavs. So no, I don't think they love him.

Atlanta just made the playoffs and filled the arena and you think the ownership plans on putting the organization up for sale? Remember the group also owns the Atlanta Thrashers. The team is going to make the ownership plenty of money if they stay the course. The Hawks will probably be on national tv a handful of times during the upcoming season due to the showing they had during the playoffs. Not only that but season ticket sales are already up.

Dam! First, I was just quoting what I read on other sites, saying that other GM's around the league might be thinking that the price for Josh Smith might be getting to expensive for their taste. Instead of losing him for nothing they would rather get something in return. Their have been rumors that the Mavs are getting some real good offers for Bass. You have to make the contracts match so Jet or Damp would be the ones that have to go. Atlanta traded Jet to us to get Walker's expiring contract, not because they disliked Jet. Jet has a great reputation in this league.
