How many titles will the Trio of Kobe, Gasol and Bynum win?

How many titles will the Trio of Kobe, Gasol and Bynum win?

Kobe will be 30 at the beginning of the season
Gasol will be 28 at the beginning of the season
Bynum will be 21 at the beginning of the season

NOTE: Didn't include Odom because I'm not sure how long he will be around or if he would be traded.

I said 2 as well. They should be able to get 1 for sure and 2 more than likely. Not sure they would get more though.

I would guess the mathematical odds are 0 when rounded.

With the West being so competitive, I would say 1. Kobe has a chip on his shoulder and he's too much of a good player to not win a championship after Shaq. People say you cant win a title without Shaq...well may be Shaq couldn't win a title without an elite guard...there i said it.

Kobe still has at least 3 years of top level of play in him and maybe 2 declining years with more than solid level of play. There is no way Kobe doesn't win 1 in 5 years.

I'd say one as well. I see Kobe starting to decline around age 34-35. With teams like Boston and San Antonio, it would be difficult to say if they can win more. Two probably if Bynum is better than expected.

My vote is for one, I don't have a huge amount of faith in either Gasol or Lamar. To me they define regular season players.

Can we at least take a break from this **** for the summer? we dont' even know if Bynum will return to the form he was playing for 33 games, yes 33 games makes him a hall of famer, last season.

There's alot of teams out there for the next five years that you can say have a chance for a couple of titles, but when you see that they're all competing against each other...

Bynum doesn't need to be a hall of famer the next 5 years for the Lakers to win 1-2 chips.
If he's 13/10/2blk the next year, and improves his ppg by 2 every year after that, that combined with the steady 18/9 from Pau and 27/5/5 from Kobe is enough to win a chip or two.

But it can't be that every team has a round-down-to-0 mathematical chance of winning a title in a X-year span. Even if there's a tight competition between 5 front-runners every year, you're still looking at a 17-18ish% chance (to account for all the non-frontrunners) for each of the 5. And even then, it's assuming there's not hierarchy within those 5 front-runners.

Meh, the Lakers have been true contenders pretty much every decade, and appear in the finals mathematically half the time.

We had a thread regarding the Boston big 3 of KG, Pierce and Allen before the season started asking how many titles they would win and over 75% of the posters voted that either they would not get to the finals, or they would only just get to the finals.

The lakers are garbage and kobe is over rated. Derick Fisher is on his last leg, and kobe thinks he is MJ and has never won a title without being second fiddle.

Having a superstar is a necessary condition to win a championship (only Detroit's not had one among the last 30 years of title winners). But it's not enough. So we should take Kobe out of the equation for answering this question.

It's all about what his supporting cast does.

If Pau grows a heart...
If Bynum comes back with the same level of play as he did for part of last season...
If the 3rd tier players (Odom, Walton, Farmar, etc) will step into their roles and fulfill them win the chips are down...

It's a lot of ifs. Too many to say the Lakers are a lock to win multiple titles. But then again, SOMEONE has to win the trophy, and its a reasonably short list of teams out there with legit stars needed to truly contend. So I'd say the Lakers have a reasonably shot at winning 1 chip in the next 5 years. Any more is pure speculation.

well here's my take..

if Maggette goes to San Antonio or Boston, I'm picking either one of those teams to win the title next year..so I'll say no for next year..

the year after that will get interesting..there's always the chance that Kobe asks for a trade, because he's Kobe..there's also still the chance(actually, I'd say it's pretty certain, because he's human) that Bynum still has feelings towards Kobe, since the guy threw him under the bus..Bynum knows he's the difference for the Lakers to win a title..it has already started, with his agent asking for so much money based on 30 games..

so you have to consider Bynum's injury, his contract, the possibility of Kobe getting upset and wanting out, the possibility of Bynum still holding negative feelings against Kobe(and he has the right to, since he embarrassed him and his family)..

I'll say 0..
