I dont think the Cowboys will be it since Oklahoma State University is the cowboys. Right now my top 3 would probably be Thunder, Barons, or Twisters.

How about adopting a name from an old ABA team or an old NBA team name that isn't being used anymore. Kinda brings some history to a new team.
Oh Yeah

Anyways here's an article about the Utah Jazz that Bennett should read when deciding whether to make it the Oklahoma City team or the Oklahoma team.

I've been clamoring for like three years that should Oklahoma City get a team, that they should be referred to as the "Oklahoma _______" rather than the "Oklahoma City ________". To me, it's a state effort and will be a 'state' team; a good portion of the fans that supported the Hornets all commuted from Tulsa, and I believe they expect about 15% of ticket sales to be from Tulsa residents alone.
I've always thought that it would be in their best interest to represent the team this way with their name, but it doesn't look like it will work out like that.

Re: Official name suggestion thread.
I suspect that my suggestions from the Sonics forum, nearly all of which were referencing the way the team was moved, would not go over so well here and now, so I'll stick to the more polite ones. Except the Stars of David. I was particularly pleased with that idea.
Anyway, Barons would be fairly decent, and that's probably the most likely of my favorites.
If stealing one from the ABA, I'd go with the Oklahoma City Squires, given that Nuggets is taken.
And speaking of taken names, I don't think Abe Pollin would be pleased by the Oklahoma Bullets, but that's got a fair ring to it.
It's the wrong sport to suggest the Oklahoma Runs, though the ever-popular suggestion of brown uniforms would be doubly meaningful there.
Also, and this is probably the last idea I have, how about the Oklahoma Boomers? Sooners is already taken, so why not go with the blatant grab for meaning by taking the other half of the OU chant?

Actually, Sooners technically is not taken. I don't think Oklahoma University can copyright it for all sports. Just Collegiate.
The name Oklahoma City Sooners wouldn't sound right anyway. I like either the Barons or Thunder. The former would be oil industry, while the latter has exceitment... But, please... No Buffalo as suggested elsewhere.

The fighter planes!
It's one of the options for create-a-team on Madden and I always got a kick out of it.

The Stelth Bomber was here for awhile, so, Oklahoma City Stelths. Or Oklahoma City Awacs.

This is kind of tongue in cheek but since people are still referring to the team as the former Sonics, we should take a page from Prince and be the Artists Formerly known as the Sonics. I know that it is a little long but they would have a symbol just like Prince.

Yeah the rocket launchers for the B2 Stealth Bomber were built in Tulsa. And the B1 Bomber (B1 Bummer my grandpa likes to say) was built in Tulsa but if the OKC team is going to leave an aerospace industry related name like the Supersonics behind then they should leave them all behind. Most of the aerospace industry was based more in Tulsa than OKC anyway. It's an OKC team right?
THUNDERCATS HOOOO!!! Gets my vote. At least it would be the funniest name in the league. Probably a copyright violation but funny nonetheless.
The name doesn't matter. Only thing that matters is what Presti chooses to do with guys like Ridnour, Watkins, Collison, Wilcox, D Wilkins, Sene and the expiring contracts of Marshall and Griffin.

I am a Knicks fan and saw a link on espn for fans to design there own logo but I think it should include this Labor omnia vincit = Labor conquers all things. That is the motto of Oklahoma got it from http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0108260.html . I thought that was cool. I think that the logo should incorporate the states history. Oilers fits pretty well into the history so I would go with that.

89ers seems like a logical choice for me. I know it's not real flashy or exciting, but I think simple is the way to go. Thunderbirds, Thunder, and Barons are names for Arena Football teams in my opinion.

OKC Marshalls (western heritage)
Okla City Lawmen (more western herit.)
OKC Arrows (native amer)
OKC Aeros (national aircraft registration center)
Okla City Wildcaters (oil indust.)
Oklahoma City Drifters
OKC Tornados
Barons and Thunderbirds both pretty sucky.

I was a big proponent of the name the Oklahoma Outlaws but did you all know that the Outlaws were a team in the now defunct USFL?
Here is the logo of the team:

I think Joe Jackson and I have the same taste for team names. I like all the ones he suggested and think Thunderbirds and Barons would be bad names.
The only problem I see with 'Drifters' is that it could be used to make fun of the team "drifting" from one city to another, unable to find a permanent home even though OKC will be its permanent home.
I like Outlaws as well. I think the O-klahoma O-utlaws sound flows well off the tongue.
