Magic and Pietrus agree to contract!

Post#1 » by Optimus_Steel » Tue Jul 8, 2008 10:06 pm

The Orlando Magic have reached a verbal agreement with shooting guard Mickael Pietrus and expect to sign him to a multi-year contract Wednesday, general manager Otis Smith confirmed to FLORIDA TODAY.

Pietrus, a 6-foot-6, 200-pound shooting guard, is expected to earn almost all of the Mid-Level Exception, starting at 5.2 million next season. Pietrus, a native of Les Abymes, Guadeloupe, France, played all five of his NBA seasons with the Golden State Warriors.

The signing of Pietrus ends the Magic’s chase of free-agent shooting guard Corey Maggette and could end their chances of retaining combo guard Keyon Dooling.

Guess that means that Maggette is either going with SA/Bos or he is getting paid alot more than the MLE. I like Pietrus, not for the MLE though. I wonder how many years, hope its only like 2/3. We just got alot more athletic and explosive at the wings thats for sure. We needed that bad.

And Denton gets the best of the BS again, who is still sleeping on the wheel.

OK, is this a joke, because if it is it isn't very funny. Don't toy with me Prorl. But if this is true, than HELL YEAH! Finally got something that I wanted and what we need for this team. I'd love Maggette, but getting a very much needed upgrade at our weakest position is simply awesome. Now can we please trade JJ and maybe even Bogans to get another frontcourt player, and the LLE on another pg please. :D

5 million per year for a guy who played 20 minutes per game and shot 44% is a steal. Way to earn your money Otis.

I don't think that means Dooling is necessarily gone though. He can still be our back up pg and third string sg if need be. Hopefully we can get a pg from Memphis, they seem to have an excess. Critt would be great, but I'd take Lowry too. We have a lot of different options actually, good news day.

He was my 2nd choice after maggette!

Thrilled to see that this year we wont be seeing the pathetic Mo-Bo-JJ trio at SG for us

Only thing that worries me is, since it said he will likely get most of the MLE, does that mean that Lewis is going to play PF for us again since we cant bring in anyone else?

Ya one of them will have to be dealt

Cause now @ the 2 we have Pietrus , Lee, Bogans, JJ

Sounds a lil' bit croweded to me. . .Now we just need to trade Nogans anywhere & get a quality big

and . .. resign Dooling!! Are we going to be able to? Anyone have an update on his status now? Theif?

Well at least we did something... I was beginning to believe that no one likes Orlando or something...?

Oh i would love to get Critt, but is that a realistic possibility? (not being sarcastic)

I feel at ease with this signing.

I feel we'll be better at that position this year than last with Pietrus, Lee, Redick.

A S&T is inevitable now. Let's get J-Will with the LLE.

wow I'm still shocked... Otis is freaking sneaky man... All this week it was just "Magic still looking at Maggette" and there was one unconfirmed rumor of Pietrus....
way to go Otis

Sure it is, if they can't get anything for Lowry, then yeah he could be available. JJ and a first would get it done I would think.

From Hollinger...

Pietrus is a long, athletic forward who can shoot from outside and finish in transition or on the drive. But his offensive game is limited by his very poor dribbling skills, which prevent him from taking slower players off the dribble, and he also has trouble with traveling violations when he tries to fake a shot and drive.

Defensively, Pietrus has the potential to be a stopper due to his length and quickness, but hasn?t quite put the whole package together yet. He still makes mental errors and gambles too much, and had the ninth-worst rate of fouls per minute at his position.

I like him, but I think we overpaid if that number is correct. I hope we don't become the Knicks in terms of blowing our MLE on role players every year. How bad do you think Otis did in ECON classes?
