Maggete for the MLE?
The wiretap says that Maggette is interested in the Spurs MLE offer (assuming he doesn't get a bigger offer from a team with more cap room). It also lists several teams that are interested, and Houston is not among them. It seems like acquiring Maggette is a very real possibility, but one that Morey has little interest in. Thoughts?

Re: Maggete for the MLE?
I was going to post a poll on this for you guys. Can you do so? I was going to ask you if Maggette came to the Rockets would he start at SF in place of Battier or would he be the 6th man?
Here was my exact question:
Let's say that Corey Maggette decided to play for the Rockets, would he start at SF or be the 6th man?
Going to Houston and playing SF or 6th man?
PG Rafer
SG T-mac
SF Battier or Corey Maggette
PF Scola
C Yao
6th man - Corey Maggette. Not sure if he went to Houston if he would start at SF or be the 6th man.
For me I think this is the move the Rockets need to make and pursue Maggette. He gives you guys that 3rd option that you need. With Maggette I feel you would for sure get to the finals and be able to win it all. Even without him I think you can, but he will make the team less stagnant on offense.
If your GM is not going for him then hopefully he is trying to get Artest or someone like that who is a 3rd scorer and option.

Re: Maggete for the MLE?
I guess Morey thinks Landry will help us miore than Maggette.
IMO thats stupid , it will be much easier to trade for a backup pf than a CHEAP 3rd scorer off the bench.
Maggette will do wonders for this team with his attacking the rim ability , with teams over the limit Yao will be a lot more effective and also everybody knows how important getting to the line is in the playoffs.
Maybe Morey thinks he can get a better more reliable player through trade and thats why we are not intersted.
I hope thats whats going on and it's not because Maggette doesn't fit the "system" , thats stupid.
On a side note I hope Detroit or Orlando get him and not the Spurs.

Re: Maggete for the MLE?
I would think that Maggete would be coming off the bench? Thats where the Rockets really need their scoring punch to come from when tracy/yao sits. Plus Battier would be better off starting as he is a better defender than Maggete and will have the unenviable task of following the other teams best player around (Kobe, LeBron etc).
A combination of Maggete, Landry and even Bobby Jackson off the pine would be better than what we had last year (thats if we can hang onto Landry if we do sign Maggete? or we could use him to get another player in a s&t if that would work im not sure though?).

Hm... I read it as him either waiting for a bigger contract or settling for the MLE from SA if he doesn't get one, not that he is fielding MLE offers from all teams.

Re: Maggete for the MLE?
Maggete would come off the bench for us, he can score points in a good amount of minutes, and if its the MLE he wants, then I'm not against that, I'd go for it. He said hes going to make his choice in the next 5 days, and I haven't heard a thing with us associated to him, so I'm going to say hes going somewhere else.
I think he'd be the perfect fit, someone that likes to slash to the rim, big, strong, quick, and can rebound. I'd love to have him, but I doubt anything will happen. Morey better have something up his sleeve in the mean time hopefully.

i'm not a big fan of his
so i have no idea how his game is like
when we played against the Clips
i saw him getting most of his points from 18-20 ft jumper
that's because his point guards (Cassell and Livingston) drew his defender away and created shot for him
big problem is our point guards can't do that
it's going to be the same for T-Mac to create for everyone
i'm looking for someone who can create his own shot
hopefully that someone isn't playing the same position as T-Mac
basically i'm looking for a point guard (big wish for Francis to stay healthy)
if we can bring in Barry (or some SG/SF who can shoot 3 to replace Head) and everyone healthy
i think we are good enough

Re: Maggete for the MLE?
I think Maggette is an ok fit here (I would rather have Mike Miller), and I would not be adverse to giving him the MLE depending on the number of years he wants (he's getting old). He's a classic scoring SF though. He can shoot the 3 but his strength is slashing ability which we do sorely lack right now. He could give us a very offense-oriented look at the SG/SF look when T-Mac or Battier sits.
Highly doubtful though since if he does take an MLE offer it'll likely be with SA.

Maggette can definitely create his own shot, in diverse ability, too.
Specifically, he's one of the best in the league at getting to the basket, drawing fouls. Also improved his 3PT shot last year, and that should continue on a better team than how the Clips were.
It's clear here you haven't gathered enough of a perspective on Maggette, through more footage and/or reading, hearing about him).

Maggette is still in the middle of the prime of his career at 28, so there isn't going to be that much drop off later on (during the late part a 4-5 year deal).

Re: Maggete for the MLE?
Maggette averaged 22 ppg this past season, and he averaged 9.7 FREE THROW ATTEMPTS PER GAME (while shooting 81% from the charity stripe)! We need that attack-the-basket mentality on this team. If the Spurs are offering the MLE, and he hasn't gotten any better offer, then why not match it?

Re: Maggete for the MLE?
I don't think he's the ideal fit on this team unless he's backing up Tracy and honestly is he going to be happy about that? No way he chooses us over the Spurs and Celtics for relatively the same offer. Pass.

He'd be great, but I don't think we can spend our mid-level all on one player. And it sounds like we don't want to sign any long term contracts.

Re: Maggete for the MLE?
I still think we've been better than the Spurs (at very least as far as a direct matchup goes) for the past two years, barring injuries (CAVEAT, HAH!), and that they're on a downhill turn while we're currently rising. It's been a lonely boat ride, and I don't know where to get a volleyball.
I'm scared of the Celtics though. Them boys got a serious bad frontline.

Jesus Christ, is it just me or do some people actually want us to suck? Our talent level is absolute garbage, and we can't score. Why can't people see this? We've been great in stretches based on hard work and defense, imagine how much more we could accomplish if we actually had some talent.
It's the MLE, not a max deal. Maggette has averaged 20 PPG for most of his career. He's an absolute steal for the full mid level exception, and he's still in his prime. The guy attacks the basket relentlessly, which is exactly what people say T-Mac needs to do more, and gets to the line non-stop in the process. This not only gets other teams best players in foul trouble, it also relieves the playmaking burden off of T-Mac.
Consider the task of having to guard both McGrady and Maggette on the perimeter. That's an absolute nightmare matchup. There won't be any breathing room for the opposing wings. Hell, if starting is what he wants, I'd give him the spot easily. His offense, and the ability to get other guys in foul trouble will more than make up for him not being Battier on defense.
And he's what, 28? Years shouldn't be an issue, either.
