Elton Brand has reached a verbal agreement to sign a multiyear contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, according to an NBA source who requested anonymity because he is not authorized to speak on player movements.
The deal is believed to be in the $80-million range and expected to span five years.

Good for us scratch a potential 50 win team in LA Clippers , but still the West will be the same as last year only the Blazers will replace the Warriors.
Still tough as hell.

HAHA I am so happy , I hope we can also steal Barry from the Spurs.
And damn GS are dumb as hell , they wouldn't give Baron 65 million for 5 years but they give Maggette 50 million for 5 years????
Thats so dumb.
I can really see Stephen Jackson an option now near the deadline whn they see they suck and can't compete.
Sign Barry and Landry.
Trade Jackson , Head 2009 1st and 2009 2nd from Memphis for Jackson.
2008-09 playoffs roster.
Yao/Deke/Dorsey
Scola/Landry/Hayes
Battier/Jackson/Greene
T-Mac/Jackson/Barry
Alston/Brooks
Contenders baby!

That's great news for us. Helps spread out the talent a bit. The Clippers and Warriors will be ok next year, but neither is now a threat to us. Consolidating talent of other teams in one team (ie Boston, LA) is what we have to fear.
Divide and conquer, my friends.

As someone who watched quite a bit of Jackson in his Indiana days, the dude is a chucker who has benefitted from the up-tempo system in Golden State. There's no way he produces with us the way he has for the Warriors. The pace that we play at will kill his game.

He was pretty darn good in his role in San Antonio when he played for Pop.

But not good enough to keep. They've had no problem winning without him. You can insert plenty of mediocre wings off the bench (Barry, Udoka) in SA and they'll still win. He had a decent playoff outing with them, but still, the guy only shot 41% (that was his best in the playoffs, ever) and he's always chucked ill-advised threes too much for my liking.
I can't see him and McGrady gelling too well, either. Both are streaky, but do you really want Jackson taking those shots from Tracy? They can both get hot, but Macdazzle has the ability to take over a game when he does, Jackson can sway the momentum, but not as drastically.

They actually wanted to keep him. Atlanta threw a bigger contract at him. Not saying I want him here...just saying

Fair enough. I just think having he and McGrady would be redundant.

Poor Baron davis, he should've stayed at golden state. Elton brand made a good move though, philly's a great team

Very nice. No longer have to worry about the Clippers being good. Also with Maggette not signing with Dallas or SA we don't have to worry about the good getting better. Now we just need to improve our team a bit more and we can win the conference.

i'am fine everytime an all-star like brand changes of conference, superstars really define a team.
maggette to the warriors don't makes sense to me considering they are without davis, rebuild around ellis, biedrins and more youth MAKES sense in the other hand.
it would be good to trade for maggete instead of s.jackson, bobbyjackson+head+hayes+something else for maggete works?

glad to see the west declining....
sucks for baron but atleast he can continue his random parties and showing up to games with a hangover now that the season is meaningless....

Re: OT - looks like brand made his decision
Official now, excellent news for us.
This leaves 7 really good teams and 3 others who fight for one spot for the the playoffs.
Lakers, Hornets, Jazz, Rockets, Suns, Mavs, Spurs
Nuggets, Blazers, Warriors, maybe also Clippers/Kings/Wolves?

The Clips just renounce everybody in sight and a ballboy. Looks like they're clearing room for a max run at somebody.

A take on the Brand thing.
I'm not so sure Boozer's bolt was actually as bad as I used to think it was, but at any rate it was worse than Brand's.
