OT - Brand will sign with Sixers

Post#1 » by daddyfivestar » Wed Jul 9, 2008 12:12 am

Espn 710 in LA just had awriter on saying its done. Brand leaving because 1) Falk says the Clips weren't forthright about how much they really had to offer and felt deceived,2) better path to go deep in the playoffs, 3) Brand feels the eastern style of play is better suited for him and apparently Philly sold him on their plan for him, 4) more money, 5) proximity to his NY home.

So much for the new rivalry.

Interesting if its true, that is a really nice lineup that Philly will have next year. Brand is a perfect fit for that team, they will give the east a run for its money.

That actually might be good for us as well as it will probably mean they will either keep Corey and pay him or force a sign and trade. That way Boston, SA, or NO won't get him.

nice find. Can't say I'm sad. The sixers are looking good, I must say. Pretty much depth is the only thing between giving Celts and Pistons major issues. Maybe they are already are there, even.

Hopefully this means the Clips offer Maggette enough money to keep him off the spurs or celtics.

Thx for linking. As I was listening, driving, and typing (don't tell chp) I was wondering who had the story.
The espn radio hosts were in shock (Damishick and someone I think).
Great pt supaflash, but Maggs may also say no Brand then I am out too, unless of course LAC goes 10 mil or so.

magz is also reportedly agreeing to a 5yr deal worth 50 mil with the warriors. terribly overpaying for the warriors. thats probably the best scenario for the lakers. he doesn't go to a contender AND he gets overpaid by a division foe.

Ooo, if that ends up true too we should really think hard about offering Azibuke something. Could use him as a big point ala Ron Harper or at the 3 when needed too. Could be a great bargain and a bargaining chip to keep Sasha a little lower. Could create some more flexibility for trades as well. Not exactly Posey but might be much much cheaper. Dunno. I'm anxious for tonight damnit! Let the chips start falling!

Clippers have a really bad front office for letting EB walk like that, omg. They essentially had a potential 50-win team that can match up well versus anyone in the west, yet they blew it. I'm a Laker fan, but I'm also a fan of of the game and business of Basketball, and this is ridiculous from a that standpoint.

 at the Clippers now and

  at the Warriors if they really did offer magette that contract.

So looks like all three of our conference rivals shot themselves in their foot.

The Clipps will have a lot of cap space. It will be interesting to see what they do with it.
I wonder how BDavis will react to this. I'm sure when he agreed to sign with the Clipps, he assumed Brand would be there.

He could change his mind like Boozer did a few years ago.

I agree, the Clips would have had a better team if EB and CM stayed with the Clips, plus they have the MLE to sign a decent player.

As for the Maggette contract, its a 5 year UP TO 50 million dollar, but starts slightly above mid-level which is around 6 Million.
