How good will the Sixers be now with Elton Brand?

Potential Lineup
PG Miller
SG Iggy
SF Green/Young
PF Brand
C Dalembert

How many games do they win? Are they good enough to take Detroit or Cleveland or Orlando now?

they win 49 to finish 4th in the East and they are good enough to beat all of those teams now.

In my eyes they arent all that better. For some reason, I see iggy really cleaning it up up the system between everyone wanting to be a star.

Hey, here's a secret to the east...just go into a zone. Brand will get bothered by double-teams (especially against long defenders as he's only 6'8) and dare Dre 'Below the rim' Miller to shoot jumpers.

I don't think I'm the most impartial person here but If you ask me, Philly is only a few playoff seeds better than they were before. I don't think they're even close to the top 3.

i agree sixer faithful need to calm down. i dont think the top 3 teams in the east last year are exactly shaking over this move. yes, obviously sixers get better but c'mon now lets not be stupid. Celts, Pistons, Magic and even MAYBEEE (prob not) Raps are still better. Pistons have best starting five yet yes they are older blah blah, Celts just won a title and have best trio in the east Magic got BETTEER with Pietrus being added to an even better Howard, a solid Raw Lewis, a MIP Turk and yes Battie and Brian Cook healthy again strengthening rebounding and interior. Not to mention one more addition yet to be made at PG or PF and possible trade of JJ. Raps got Bosh, Calderon etc. So top 4-5 def for sixers IF they mesh. Brand is no God and Clippers had a better team than sixers have and theyve done crap with him. Theyll be lucky if they get 50 wins.

4 seed if brand stays healthy and iggy improves his offensive game.

now if they can add some pure shooters off the bench a 3 seed.

Damn, think about that lineup.

PG Baron Davis
SG Mobley or whoever is in town
SF Al Thorton
PF Beasley
C Kaman

Really good young nucleus with veteran running the point.

Yeah, obviously we screwed up in thinking Brand was going to actually come back like he said he wanted to. I was one of those who didn't want to trade Brand for Beasley. Heck, some Heat fans were asking Marion and the #2 for Brand and most of us scoffed at it. That was all within last 2 weeks. Now we have nothing to show for it except cap room.

Healthy Brand is easily the second best PF in the East IMO, they beat the Pistons twice and they just added a player that is easily the best player on their team now, fills a glaring hole, and he's better than anyone on the Pistons.

I think they are in the top 5 in the East now, and capable of contending with any of the big dogs, especially if they can add a shooter.

Assuming a full lineup of:

PG - Miller/Louis Williams
SG - Iggy/Green
SF - Thad/free agent - hopefully a shooter (CJ Miles?)
PF - Brand/Evans/Speights
C - Dalembert/Jason Smith

I could see them as high as 3rd in the east, as low as 6th (assuming everyone stays reasonably healthy). They'll play great d, they'll be great in transition, and they'll have a solid slashing and post game, but they'll be held back to a certain degree by spacing problems due to a pretty severe lack of shooters. Iggy would be the only player in the starting lineup to have hit more than 6 threes last season (Thad hit 6 threes last season, Miller hit 3, Dalembert and Brand have combined for 2 threes in their entire careers). If they could sign CJ Miles, they'd probably actually be better off with a lineup of:

PG - Miller/Louis Williams
SG - CJ Miles/Green
SF - Iggy/Thad
PF - Brand/Evans/Speights
C - Dalembert/Jason Smith

I think you guys are over hyping their situation but I think it's going to be a hit or miss situation. At best a 4th or 5th seed at worst 8th or possibly missing the playoffs.

Elton Brand is exactly what they need, a guy who can score for them in half court.

I'm glad he is there, I think people don't realize how good he really is.

They are still in desperate need of some shooting. They should go after James Jones. He is a great shooter and a pretty good defender.
