Iggy at PG?

Post#1 » by glxyjones » Wed Jul 9, 2008 2:40 pm

I posted this in a thread but felt it might warrant its own...

I'm not a basketball expert by any means but has it ever been considered on this board to move iggy to PG? I know he's not a prototypical PG but he's a great ball handler and has a pretty good APG number (4.8). He seems to run from the point a lot when Miller is on the bench and considering Thad is our SF for years to come, might be a good way to fit him on the team. To me at least, he seems to be a better passer than outside shooter and therefore would be in more of a PG mold. This might also let us play Lou Will at SG since iggy could then defend the opposing SG with his size and Lou could defend their point.

I love iggy and don't want him to go anywhere and if this would somehow work out, we could trade Miller for a true shooting guard.

Thoughts?????

he has the skills and the court vision to play some minutes(to be the 3rd pg) but he is not a pg.

He doesn't have the ballhandling skills to play PG.

I don't think he has the ball handling skills of Miller, but I think he would be comparable to Lou Will. If he committed himself to being a full time PG, I think he could eventually be a star in that role. Like I said before, 4.8 APG from a SG/SF position is quite good and if he ran the offense full time, there's no reason to think it wouldn't go up to at least 6.0.

A agree with mhunt, Iggy does not have the ball handling ability to be a PG... Not only that, but I'm not sure I trust his decision making...

I think Iggy @ the 2 makes the most sense... He can use his defensive abilities against the leagues premier scorers, get out on the break easier, and the presence of Brand on the low block can only help his offense... He just needs to go the gym and shoot 500 shots a day in improve his shooting...

Iggy is capably of spotting at the PG. I could see a scenario with him and LWill in the backcourt with Iggy handling the ball. He'd have to have another ball handler. It would depend on match-ups but he has the skills to do some Point Forward type of things.

wasnt iverson complaining when we experimented with iggy at the point? and then u know what happened after that.

I think Iggy can have a huge size advantage at PG and i think hes a great play maker. he could play at SG too since his jumper has improved and will be much improved in the upcoming season. i dont care what position he plays at as long as hes still on the team.

I had mentioned this possibility if they were going to acquire Ellis as a SG. Not sure he's a perfect fit, but Rondo has shown you that the PG doesn't need to be a perfect player to make this work.

Iguodala will have the ball in his hands a great deal, but probably only will really get minutes as the on paper PG while LW is in the game. Miller will generally be the 'true' PG whenever he's on the court, but most of the time any of the PG-SG-SF players will handle the ball and start the offense. Biggest issue for me is that the Sixers have good defensive matchups at each spot...and this issue has been improved with the Brand acquisition, which moves Thad to the SF, and Iguodala to the SG.

Iguodala is capable of playing PG here and there, but I don't know about full-time. It could work if he were sharing the ball-handling duties, such as in a future backcourt of him and Lou Williams.
