Full Rebuild, or Let It Ride?

I want to gauge Nets' fans interest in moving Vince Carter. I really believe that he could lead this young, talented team to the postseason next year. But maybe building an entirely youth-based core would be best.

If given the choice, would you do this deal?

Outgoing Players: Donte Greene, Shane Battier, Bobby Jackson, future 1st to NJN

Brooks, Head, Hayes, Landry, Mutombo

Portland Trade Breakdown
Incoming Players: Trenton Hassell, Shane Battier, Bobby Jackson
Outgoing Players: Martell Webster, Raef LaFrentz, two future 2nds to NJN
Bayless, Roy, Battier, Aldridge, Oden
Blake, Fernandez, Outlaw, Frye, Pryzbilla

The Nets would have a great balance of perimeter shooting, slashing, low-post scoring and defense. I LOVE the matchup nightmare bench scoring duo of CDR and Donte on the wings, and S.W.A.T. would be there to mask their "defense-ciencies". Also, the SF spot would be wide open for a potential FA signing...

Honestly...we have enough young guys now. Our average age is likst 24. We have a solid PG prospect (Harris), SG prospect (CDR), and tons of young big men. They need to have some vet leadership which is why of the Vets we have (vince) I think we are ACTUALLY IN our full rebuild. If we trade Vince and get 2902 young guys on the team. There is no way we'll be able to keep them all down the road. We're gonna go the course we have set now, sign a few vets to help out the young guys and go from there. Unless something wild happens, this is our team at the time being. I think we'll make some moves this offseason in trades to stay somewhat competitive, but let's stop thinking we're not in a full rebuild ONLY because Vince Carter is still on the roster.

As concerned as I am about the idea of Harris being "all alone" out there, for this package, I'd probably pull the trigger.

I dont see Portland doing this but I do think that 100% commitment to rebuilding is a must at this point.
I personally despise rebuilding (especially this rebuild towards 2010 idea) and think that its completley un-needed however now that we traded RJ there's really no going back.
Look in this league if youre not competitive (not contending but competing) or rebuilding youre in no man's land, no man's land is the worst place you can be in what it mean's is that you end up missing the playoffs AND you dont get a valueable pick.

With Vince here we're just that in no man's land, we're nothing, we're just a few fluke wins a year and a 10th-14th pick, without him we'll be damn right awful this year but at least we'll gain a direction with cap space and a very talented young core which will also gain a top 5 pick in what looks like a great upcoming draft.
Keeping Vince here really doesnt help us nor him, and no those few tickets he can sell to a rebuilding team that's located in a swamp arent worth him staying.

We don't billions of young guys . We have enough youngsters in my eyes.

And btw i doubt the Nets would want Donte Green he had some problems with one of the assistants on his workout here.

We dont need a billion young guys but we have no reason to keep an all star that's close to the end of his prime with 4 years remaining on his contract.

It's 3 years but here's my point .

Once the young guys are more established we should trade Carter but just throw out young guys without any real clue now isn't going to cut it.

Carter's value isn't going to get much lower anymore anyway. If he can help adjust some of the young players to the NBA then why trade him now ? It's not like we won't get what we can get now later, hell we should be able to get alot more later once some teams become desperate.

^^^ Exactly. You need to have some leadership on the team. Vince isn't going anywhere until management is certain 1, 2 or even 3 of their young guys are ready to take it to the next level and be the face of the franchise. The only other way he leaves is if we can trade for a guy who will immediately become the face of the franchise. We have like 9 guys on our roster under 25. I'm not interested in adding anymore because I like the core and potential we have.

I don't think we should move Vince.

You can't have your entire roster be young talent - there needs to be some veteran presence on the squad, or else you're damaging the potential of your young players. SOMEONE needs to take the shots, right?

Let's hold onto Vince for the moment - I would have rather kept RJ, but now that he's gone, trading Carter makes no sense.

By the way - Vince is going to take like 30 shots a game next season, if anyone here does fantasy, I'd pick him up.
