Gerald Wallace Anyone?

Post#1 » by Miklo » Wed Jul 9, 2008 3:03 pm

Ok I came up with a random trade idea - I really had to think outside the box since so many ideas have already been proposed and admittedly this is pretty wacky, so I expect to be torn a new A-hole as far as criticism goes but I'm bored at work anyway so here goes.

Phoenix gets:
Gerald Wallace

Charlotte gets:
Mehmet Okur, Ronnie Brewer

Utah gets:
Leandro Barbosa, Grant Hill

PHX Lineup:
PG: Nash, Lue, DJ
SG: Bell, Wallace, Giricek, DJ
SF: Wallace, Diaw, Tuck, Giricek
PF: Amare, DIaw, Lopez, Skinner
C: Shaq, Lopez, Skinner

Rationale:
The thought of Gerald Wallace (Matrix's replacement) on the Suns starts me daydreaming, which is why I tried to work something out involving him. He can play at the 2 and 3 spot for us, freeing up Diaw to play the "4 with range" where I would argue he plays better than at the 3 while Lopez is in locking down the lane. We replace the aging Hill with Tucker, who we can afford to take a gamble on now that we have a solid guarantee at the 3 in Wallace. Wallace gives us a ton of help when we have Nash and Amare on the court, as he can do the dirty work and defend both the perimeter and the lane while our two defensive liabilities are on the floor.

Charlotte needs a good solid center and Okur can spread out the frontcourt while Okafor dominates the paint. They can afford to give up Wallace with Brewer, a poor man's Wallace joining the bench while JRich and a healthy Morrison can spend some time at the 3 position (now that Felton and Augustin can populate the backcourt).

Utah gets a great complement to Deron Williams and a very dangerous and speedy backcourt. They can play around with Boozer and Koufos in the paint and perhaps push AK47 up to PF while Hill is on the court although they might take too big of a hit at the 5 to make this okay for them.

Thoughts?

We're not trading Hill. If you need reasons I can supply them, but I think it's self explanatory. Id rather swap him out and put tucker and a pick in.

Gerald Wallace is a proven AND an up and coming player with size, athleticism, defense and range. They might be hesitant to move him for an unathletic jumpshooting center and a bench player. While they for sure need a Center, they'd prob want some future considerations as well

Wallace is a 3/4, no way he is a 2/3

Utah is praised for their team defense. While they desperately need a sharpshooting 2, not sure Barbs would last a week with Sloan after being breastfed by the Dantonis. This also leaves Utah with no legit centers.

Id love to see a move with Barbs for Wallace involved (minus grant hill) but not sure the other teams would do it.

how bout this

Not worth giving up LB AND Hill for...he's one concussion away from being severely effed up, and he didn't even look like the player he used to be when he came back from his last concussion. Not saying that I wouldn't want Gerald on our team; I've been pining for him for years. I just don't think it makes any sense to trade away two good rotation players for one(especially at Grant's price tag).

The general premise however(Wallace as a Sun) is one that I'm down for; it's the process that we go through to obtain him that I don't like.

True, true...I just need Wallace on the Suns and I tried to think of every possible 2- and 3-team situation that gives Charlotte a big with no real avail. And unfortunately Wallace doesn't come up for FA anytime soon. Its worth dreaming, though. Probably just as much of a long shot but what about:

PHX gets
Gerald Wallace, Matt Carrol

CHA gets
Rasheed Wallace

DET gets
Diaw, Barbosa

EDIT:
We get Gerald, and a good solid spot up shooter.
DET gets rid of Sheed and adds to their young core.
CHA gets a much more versatile big than Memo

Great, another Gerald Wallace trade thread. Hes a nice player, but it is not going to happen guys. This team is looking for role players, thats it. If Diaw's value goes up, he might be traded, but that is about it. Barbs is a possibility.

I mean, is there any chance of this trade happening? No. But I would have a hard time finding any trade thread ever posted on any board that represented a trade that ended up happening. I say there's nothing wrong with speculation, especially when the FO has given us such a boring, depressing few years here. But yeah you're definitely right, now would be a horrible time to trade Diaw, and I even think it would be almost as bad of a time to trade Barbosa. Wait until they bounce back then either let them add their value to the team or trade them for GWallace

Ok, fiiine....well I've been to a few Bobcats games and there were only like 1,000 people there so maybe we could just give Diaw and the "rights" to Milos Vujanic to the Bobbies and bribe them by loaning them some bandwagon Suns fans! Oh wait, theres not a Suns bandwagon anymore. Never mind. Guess our best bet is him getting another concussion, medical retirement, then another miracle by our training staff.

Yeah yeah, I spent the first 30 minutes conceptualizing and trying to pick out the cream of the crop but its very competitive...I was about to put Fourth Quarter Frank in as the fearless leader too but Alton Ford just puts a smile on my face.
